Jose Cervantes

Jose was a devoted husband, son, brother, uncle, and man of faith. He is survived by his beloved wife, Hermelinda Baena Cervantes, with whom he shared a life rooted in love, faith, and meaningful experiences. He is also survived by his father, Aurelio Cervantes, and his siblings: Jovita Cervantes de Fraga (Magdaleno R.), Isidro Cervantes (Maria Virgilia), Maria Anita Carranco (Raul), Gabriel Cervantes, Guadalupe Cervantes (Deborah A.), Rita Carranco (José M.), Maria Elena Lerma (Alejandro G.), and Javier Cervantes. Jose also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, whom he cherished deeply and supported as if they were his own children.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Andrea Uñate Cervantes; his grandparents, Gabriel Cervantes and Guadalupe Alcala, Antonio Uñate and Maria de Los Angeles Valdez; his niece, Cynthia Carranco; and his brother-in-law, Anastacio Lerma Jr.

Jose graduated from Sam Houston High School in San Antonio, Texas, as part of the Class of 1986. He went on to earn his degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Houston, a path that led him to a distinguished 32-year career with NASA. His dedication to his work reflected both his intelligence and his commitment to excellence.

Beyond his professional life, Jose was deeply committed to his faith and his community. As a catechist in the Catholic Church, he devoted his time to teaching children and helping them prepare for their confirmations, leading not only through instruction but by personal example of faith and integrity. His spiritual life was central to who he was; he often engaged in Catholic reflections and meditations that strengthened his relationship with God.

Jose also valued health and perseverance, regularly exercising and participating in cycling events, including the MS 150 bike marathon. He and his wife shared a love of travel, with one of their most cherished destinations being the Holy Land in Jerusalem.

Jose will be remembered for his quiet strength, unwavering faith, generous heart, and dedication to both family and community. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Visitation will be held at Funeraria Del Angel Crespo, 4136 BROADWAY ST, HOUSTON, TX 77087, US, on May 8, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm, with a Prayer Service at the same location on May 8, 2026, from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

A Funeral Service will take place at St. Benedict Catholic Church, 4535 Lord Rd, San Antonio, TX 78220, US, on May 9, 2026, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, followed by a Committal Service at Meadowlawn Memorial Park, Inc., 5611 E Houston St, San Antonio, TX 78220, US, on May 9, 2026, from 12:15 pm to 12:45 pm.

A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held at St Cecilia's Catholic Church, 125 W Whittier St, San Antonio, TX 78210, on May 9, 2026, beginning at 1:00 pm.

José Cervantes, nacido en San Antonio, Texas, y residente de Pearland, Texas, falleció el 2 de mayo de 2026 a la edad de 57 años.

José fue un esposo, hijo, hermano, tío y hombre de fe devoto. José también valoraba la salud y la perseverancia, ejercitándose regularmente y participando en eventos de ciclismo, incluyendo el maratón MS 150. Él y su esposa compartían el amor por viajar, siendo uno de sus destinos más queridos Tierra Santa en Jerusalén.

José será recordado por su fortaleza tranquila, su fe inquebrantable, su corazón generoso y su dedicación tanto a su familia como a su comunidad. Su presencia será profundamente extrañada por todos quienes lo conocieron y amaron.

La velación se llevará a cabo en Funeraria Del Angel Crespo, 4136 Broadway St, Houston, TX 77087, el 8 de mayo de 2026, de 5:00 p.m. a 9:00 p.m., con un servicio de oración en el mismo lugar de 7:00 p.m. a 8:00 p.m.
