

Jose Joel Perez, affectionately known as Joe, aged 77, died Friday August 9, 2024 at his home in Houston, TX. Joe was born on February 14, 1947 in Corpus Christi, TX to his parents Jose and Sara Perez.
He served in The United States Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1970. He graduated in 1972 from The University of Texas at Austin with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He worked for Union Pacific Railroad and was an outstanding employee for 47 years and retired in 2019. Joe was a hardworking exemplary human being.
He was very knowledgeable, gentle natured, loving, and giving. He had a eccentric personality and was quite humorous. He was a great storyteller and captivated his listeners with tales of his youth and hardships.
Joe was a doting father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and loved spending time with all his children. Joe enjoyed many summers camping at his favorite place, Garner State Park in Concan, TX. He loved climbing to the top of Old Baldy Trailhead and then taking a refreshing dip in the Frio River. Many charming memories were made at Garner and will forever be cherished! Joe impacted every living being he knew and was beloved by all who knew him.
His legacy will live on through his children and the many lives he touched for generations. Joe is survived by his wife of 17 years Anita Perez; his daughter Lesette Perez (Joe Gonzales); his son Nicholas Perez (Shannon Dugan-Perez); his stepson Rey Nunez; his granddaughters Daniella Perez (Jason Hayes); Jasmine Medel-Perez; Juliet Perez-Sanchez (Fabian); and Ava Perez-Gonzales; his great-grandsons Jett and Rocket Hayes. Joe is also survived by his brothers Harry Perez (Linda); David Perez (Gloria); and George Perez (Sylvia). He was preceded in death by his first wife of 39 years Sylvia Perez; and his parents Jose and Sara Perez.
Service and Interment will be held on August 23, 2024. A public visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and the Funeral service will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Garden Oaks Funeral Home 13430 Bellaire Blvd, Houston, Texas 77083. Interment 2:00 p.m. at Houston National Cemetery 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr, Houston, Texas 77038.
