Dr. Jose K. Sia, MD
1943 – 2025
Dr. Jose K. Sia, MD, a devoted family physician and beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on July 15, 2025, in Houston, Texas, at the age of 81.
Born in the Philippines in 1943, Jose grew up in a large and loving family and pursued a career in medicine with a deep sense of purpose and responsibility. After completing his medical education in the Philippines, he met Marieta at Clark Air Force Base. The two fell in love and, in 1972, immigrated to the United States together—just the two of them, with two suitcases, endless determination, and a shared dream of building a better life.
Jose began his medical residency at St. Margaret’s Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where he trained in Family Medicine. After completing his training, Dr. Sia established a private practice in Hopewell Township, Beaver County, where he would serve as a primary care physician for more than five decades. From house calls in his early years to the steady stream of patients who filled his schedule well into his seventies, he dedicated himself wholeheartedly to the well-being of his community.
Dr. Sia was known for his direct, thoughtful style of communication—never one to sugarcoat, but always deeply kind. His patients trusted him not only for his clinical expertise, but for the way he listened, remembered, and genuinely cared. He treated generations of families and found profound fulfillment in his work. Even in retirement, he could recall patients’ names and stories and often reflected with gratitude on the privilege of being their physician.
In 2021, Jose and Marieta moved to Houston, Texas, to be closer to family. But he never truly slowed down. In retirement, Dr. Sia found a new sense of purpose working at the Houston Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS), conducting medical evaluations for military recruits. He deeply respected and enjoyed his time with the staff and colleagues there, and the role offered the perfect balance—an opportunity to continue practicing medicine in a meaningful way while enjoying a new chapter of life.
Jose was not a man of many words, but his actions spoke volumes. He was a steady and devoted husband, a deeply loyal father, and a quiet source of strength for his family. He showed his love not through grand gestures, but through presence, responsibility, and unwavering commitment.
Those who knew him best will remember the small, steady ways he showed his love—how he was always bringing home snacks and treats, making sure no one ever went hungry, picking up items at the store or he saw online because he thought you might need it. He and Marieta worked tirelessly to make sure their children never went without, always striving to build a better life and open doors through education and opportunity. His greatest happiness came from seeing his family thrive.
He also loved the simple pleasures of life—a good buffet, a great deal, or anything that felt like a bargain. For a small guy, he could pack in a lot. He enjoyed tinkering in the garage, fixing things around the house, and—during his years in Pennsylvania—took particular pride in riding his lawn tractor and keeping the yard in perfect shape. These routines, done with care and quiet satisfaction, were his way of keeping order in the world and caring for the people he loved.
One of his favorite family traditions was the summer road trip to Myrtle Beach. He delighted in the ritual of packing up the car—stuffed to the brim with kids, coolers, and beach gear—and driving through the night so the vacation could begin at first light. These moments, surrounded by family and the familiar rhythm of the road, brought him quiet joy and lasting memories.
His life was one of quiet strength, steady love, and deep devotion—to his family, his work, his faith, and most of all, to Marieta. Together, they built a life grounded in sacrifice, partnership, and purpose. Their faith was a constant presence in their home and in the way they lived—with humility, grace, and gratitude. Every chapter they wrote—across continents, years, and generations—was filled with faith, love, and the simple joy of being together.
May his memory live on in the lives he touched and in the family he cherished above all else.
