Joe worked as Regional Food Supervisor for Walgreens for 50 years. His job involved their food services located in their drug stores. Walgreens also owned L&C Cafeteria’s in Houston. The drug chain made the decision to eliminate all food services after his 50 years of employment. In his early years, prior to marriage to Adeline, he was a chef for Mr. Walgreen on his private yacht. When the yacht was sold he transferred his food skills to the Walgreen food service chain in their drug stores in the Chicago area. He later was transferred to Jacksonville, Florida and subsequently to Houston. After his years with Walgreens he wasn’t ready to retire. He worked for Shepps Dairy also in Houston.
Joe is preceded in death by his Spouse, Adeline who he was married to for 53 yrs., and his only son Joseph Thomas. He had a brother Thomas Calabrese (Concetta), sister Marie Riedel (James), and sister Rose Graulich (Kurt).
He is survived by his two daughters Adeline Pittman(Bob) and Joyce Dicken(Darrell). Grand children Adam Pittman (Kelly), Jeremy Pittman (Katie), Jessica Dicken (Hunter), Daniel Dicken, and Carey Calabrese (Cameron). Great grandchildren, Logan, Ethan, and Grace Pittman. He enjoyed a close relationship with them despite being long distance, Chicago area.
His service was held on May 6 at Forest Park Westheimer, in the Chapel. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him. He loved his life and his friends at Del Webb. His Cavalier King Charles ‘Maggie’ was truly his best friend…
