Joseph accepted Christ at an early age, and was baptized in Frierson, Louisiana.
Joseph united in holy matrimony on December 7, 1979 to Faye D. Moore of Minden, Louisiana. This Union was blessed with two children, Syreeta and Joseph Jr.
Joseph attended Jones High School and later enlisted in the U.S. Army in September of 1974 and successfully completed basic training at Fort Polk, Louisiana. He would later leave active duty service and join the Texas Army National Guard and endure multiple deployments: 1985 – Honduras, 1986 – Grafenwoehr, Germany (The Box), 1987 – Hohenfels, Germany, 2007 - Afghanistan, receiving multiple service medals and awards, and retiring with a rank of Master Sergeant (E-8). He took creative writing courses at Texas Southern University. Obtained an AAS degree in Automotive Engineering Technology, from Houston Community College, and the equivalent of a Bachelors’ degree in Military Science during his military career.
Employed by the United States Postal Service, 1978 – 2017, he held various positions to include, custodian, tractor trailer operator, acting Supervisor, Supervisor of Transportation, and retiring as Manager of Transportation and Network.
Joseph enjoyed car racing, building engines, fishing, watching sports, bowling, playing dominoes and basketball.
He was preceded in death by his Father James Edden, Sr., Mother Emma Francis, sisters Mary, Martha, Brothers Terry Ray, James Jr., Jessie Lee, and Johnny, Daughter Syreeta.
He is survived by his Wife Faye, Son Joseph Jr. and granddaughter Camille, as well as his Sister, Margarett; his brothers John Perry, Jasper (Angela), Jacob Sr, Jerry (Jackie); Aunts Nola Bettis, Shreveport, LA and Helen Brown, Stonewall, LA; Mother-in-law Deseree Moore, Minden, LA; Brother-in-law Samuel Houston Sr, and a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and relatives.
