Josephine Ann Chmiel Klotz, 90, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 3, 2011, surrounded by her family. Josephine was born on March 16, 1921, in Bremond, Texas, to Anton and Annie Chmiel. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Marion Klotz, Sr., sisters Willie Mae Klotz, Bernice Smith, Janie Baranowski, Christine Chmiel, brother Frank Chmiel, and son-in-law Bill Cooksey. Josephine was a parishioner at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church since 1948, and a member of the Women’s Club for many years. She lived her life devoted to her family, leaving behind a legacy of immeasurable proportions. To know her was to feel her warmth and welcoming heart. The matriarch of a large close-knit family, Josephine's door was open to everyone in times of joy and sorrow with a hot homemade meal on the table at a moment's notice. Every child was special at Nana's house, where there was sure to be cookies in the cookie jar and a pot of chicken noodle soup on the stove. Each year at Christmas, dozens of people awaited their gift bag full of her homemade jellies, cookies, divinity and pumpkin bread. She also enjoyed gardening. She could grow anything, and her beautiful flowers and garden were proof of her green thumb! Though our beloved Mother's time on earth has passed, she will forever live in our hearts and her kindness and beautiful smile never be forgotten. Josephine is survived by her children Mary Ann Spencer and husband Tommy; Marion Klotz, Jr. and wife Marie; Ronald Klotz, Norbert Klotz and wife Terri; Charlotte Carr and husband Troy; Monica Cooksey; Nancy Stark; and Donna DeVries and husband Joe; sister Pauline Szafranski; brother Walter Chmiel; 18 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. Pallbearers will be her grandsons. Visitation will be held at Earthman’s Funeral Home at Hunter’s Creek on Tuesday, September 6, from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m., with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, 6622 Haskell, at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 7, 2011. Interment to follow at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetary, Westheimer @ Dairy Ashford. Donations may be made to the Salvation Army, the Houston Food Bank, or the charity of your choice.
