Josephine “Jo” Marie Caliva Dumas, 68, of Cypress, TX, passed away peacefully Sunday, August 9, 2015, at her home. She was born on March 18, 1947 in Houston, to George B. and Lucille (Rao) Caliva, both deceased. She had only one older sister, Lee Ann (Caliva) DeJohn, also deceased. Josephine is survived by her brother-in-law, Joe DeJohn of Cypress,TX; niece Jo Marie (DeJohn) Sequeira, her husband Bubba Sequeira of Cypress, TX; niece Samantha DeJohn of Houston, TX; great niece Brittney (Sequeira) Moore, her husband Chris, daughter Skye, and baby Luke of Cypress, TX; great nephew Stephen Sequeira of Cypress TX.
She was baptized and confirmed with the Catholic faith. She attended Milby High School, Class of 1965 in Houston and retired working as a County Processing Clerk for central records at the Harris County Deputy Sheriff’s Office. Some of her earlier years she was proud to be a “Deputy” with the Sheriff’s department and carried a gun.
Her hobbies were cooking, rodeos, playing with dogs, cats, and horses, knitting, genealogy, ancestry and family tree research for our relatives in Sicily, travelling, casinos, cruises, and road trips. Her adventurous spirit took her to live in Cheyenne, WY where she enjoyed open country-side views with snow and bird watching. Having no children of her own, Josephine enjoyed spending time with her nieces and nephews, taking them on her long road trips. She enjoyed hanging out with friends while drinking coffee at Denny’s, eating at Bucca di Peppo, joke telling, and cooking the most delicious desserts and pastries. Her favorite flowers were stargazer lilies and roses.
She was generous to a fault even when she had very little extra money to spend, showering gifts on her family at Christmas, and on birthdays. She was fiercely independent, right up to the end of her life. Though in many ways very private, she was gregarious and friendly to all. A true "giver," she invested much of her energy in the care of her parents, helping them live comfortably well until their older years.
Her nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews will greatly miss Auntie
