Josephine was predeceased by her husband "Buddy" (Leonard Tallerine), her brother Frank Coselli Jr., and her sister D (Delores Coselli), and she has been survived by her brother and sister-in-law Richard and Mary Jo Coselli; her 7 sons: Leonard, Larry, Frank, Charlie, John, Richard and Anthony; 34 grandchildren and 37 (plus 2 due in September) great grandchildren.
She was born in Galveston, Texas on September 21st, 1925. She was born on the same day as her grandmother (Josephine Racone), therefore named after her. She lived in Galveston until she was 9 years old and then moved to Houston.
In 1949, she married "Buddy." She and Buddy took over running one of her father's grocery stores for about six months and then retired to start her family, raising 7 sons. To quote her,
"Life was very full, happy and to some standards maybe rather uneventful. We were all healthy and I wouldn't let the boys be too adventurous, so we got by with only broken leg and one broken arm."
She enjoyed volunteering for The Boy Scouts and being a den mother for 8 years. She loved her boys and was very proud of all of them. After Buddy's heart attack, she worked some at "Buddy's Food Market" until they sold the store. She then worked at Frost Brothers and for Frank at his business "The Door Store" until he went into the ministry.
Always good with numbers, she worked with Richard & Anthony at ACS for over 20 years by helping with the book keeping and watching over the accounts. In her later years, she continued to watch over the accounts until mid-2021.
She always started her day with reading the word of God along with her devotional. For the last 7 years she ended her day by praying with her granddaughter Rachel. Although she never really enjoyed the outdoors, she was an avid bowler having played in a women's league for the last three decades. She finished her bowling career in April of 2021 with a 91 average. She was excellent at many word and number games, playing with her children and grandchildren up until just a couple of days before her passing. To quote her from a letter written in 1993 to her grandchildren,
"I can say though that my greatest love besides God and your Grandfather (who was such a good and righteous man, rather gruff and macho at times, but his heart is big and tender), are my children and my grandchildren. My years between 25 and 50 years old were completely for and absorbed with my sons. i cannot begin to tell you how much pleasure they brought me and still do. And now the same is true of my grandchildren. Materially we never had a lot but for me there is no one that had more than I. I didn't have everything the world could offer, but that wasn't important. Then when I accepted Jesus, along with everything else I had, I received His peace and so I can live out the rest of my days feeling complete. In raising the boys, I now know I made some wrong decisions along the way and sometimes I feel I didn't help them to excel to their highest potential, but if parenting was measured by love, then there would have been nothing lacking on my part."
A funeral service will be held at 10am on Monday, July 18th at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Fwy, Houston, Texas 77079. I reception will follow at The Well Houston, 6608 FM 1960, Suite H, Houston, Texas 77069.
She always had a heart for the poor in Honduras in which her home church supports, therefore in lieu of flowers, if you would like to make a donation, you can make it out to The Well Ministries in her honor and it will go to help that work. You can mail a check to The Well Houston at 6608 FM 1960, Suite H, Houston, Texas 77069.
