Joyce Virginia Wells

I, Joyce Virginia Sodia Wells was born November 19, 1943, healthy and strong to Matthew and Dorothy Sodia in Ganado, Texas, attending George Washington Carver Elementary & High School and graduated in 1963 in Edna, Texas. Then Hicks Beauty School in San Antonio, TX becoming a Cosmetologist. At an early age I gave my life to Christ as a member of Prosperity Baptist Church in Ganado, Tx under the leadership of Pastor LB Elliott. Working in the church until I met and married Bernard Wells Sr. from this union we raised 4 beautiful children, Susan Evette, Timothy Larue, Bernard Jr. and Jocelyn Renee. As a member of Greater New Hope Baptist Church, sung in the choir and a member of the Junior Mission.

We later joined Yale Street Baptist Church, where I worked with the youth and song in the choir. Eventually became a Seventh Day Adventist and oh how I loved it! I became a member of Hebron SDA Church, serving as the church choir president, head deaconess, women’s ministry leader and treasurer.

I love children, working with the Pathfinders Club, vacation Bible School and was the director of the food pantry. I love my church and community, I love feeding people and I lived in my kitchen! I love sending gifts of food to my sick neighbors and people in nursing homes.

Limited to my walker and wheelchair letting people know that I could still do all things through Christ who strengthened me! Telling people don’t let this wheelchair fool you, it’s just my knees, not my mind or hands. I love doing crafts and making corsages for women’s day and weddings. I love my children, grandchildren and all the boys and girls in the neighborhood! I love all of you Hebronites.

See you all on that great day, when Jesus comes through the clouds, to take us all home to live with him.

I leave behind my children, Timothy & Michele, Bernard Jr., Jocelyn, my grandchildren, Danielle, Marquise, Jynelle, Eboni Elia, Myles, Terrell, Malik, Khoury, Clarence (CJ), Chanae, Earl (Trey) and 12 great grandchildren. My child and grandchildren who proceeded me in death Susan Evette, Courtney Ra’shaun, Bernard III ( Lil B) and Rodney T.

Also, proceeding me in death my parents, my brother Julius (Buddy) Sodia and sister Maxine Sodia.

Visitation will be held at Paradise Funeral Home, Inc, 10401 West Montgomery, Houston, TX 77088, US, on April 10, 2026, from 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm, followed by a Celebration of Life at the same location from 2:30 pm to 3:30 pm.

A Committal Service will take place at Paradise Cemetery North, 10401 West Montgomery, Houston, TX 77088, US, on April 10, 2026, from 3:45 pm to 4:15 pm.
