Joyce (Jo) Wilson was born to Leslie H. Parrish and Jean Morgan in Ft. Bragg, North Carolina, the fourth of seven children. As an Army brat, she traveled widely with her family, including a memorable chapter in Germany where she learned to speak German before later relearning English upon returning to the United States. Her family eventually settled in Houston, where Joyce met the love of her life, Johnny, on a blind date. She often joked that “they had been blind ever since.” Joyce and Johnny shared 56 years of marriage before his passing in 2025.
Joyce’s career reflected her dedication, intelligence, and steady presence. She worked part-time at Bellaire Hospital, taught part-time at Wharton Community College, and ultimately found her long-term professional home at Methodist Hospital. There, she served as a night-time supervisor in Data Processing, retiring after more than 33 years of service.
Outside of work, Joyce filled her life with creativity, companionship, and joy. She loved tending to her yard, making crafts, and playing a wide variety of board games. One day of the week was reserved for BINGO with her sister Jackie, a tradition she cherished. Joyce adored her Yorkies, treating them like her children and taking them for ice cream every day. After her father retired from the military and opened a bowling alley, Joyce became an excellent bowler—another skill she carried proudly through life.
Joyce treasured time with her nieces and nephews, taking them on adventures to water parks and other fun outings. She also loved spending time with friends and family, sharing her dry sense of humor and the smile that always gave away when she was teasing. Her warmth, wit, and unmistakable presence will be deeply missed.
Joyce is preceded in death by her father, Leslie Parrish; her mother, Jean Morgan; her brothers, Leslie Parrish Jr. and Eugene Parrish; her sisters, Rae Jean Osborn, Rikki Sizemore, and Jackie Luna; and her niece, Misty Luna. She is survived by her sister, Maria Renquist; sisters in law Dorothy Dosser (husband Arnold), Linda Hill (husband Jeff), and Becky Miller (husband James); as well as numerous nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.
