

It is with both fondness and sadness we announce the passing of Joyce Lynn Worden, who peacefully departed this world at the age of 87, after a lengthy illness. She was born in Streator, Illinois on 7/15/38 to Clyde & Ronelva Connell. She is preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, Ray, and son, Paul Daniel. She graduated from Spring Branch High School in 1956. She married her high school sweetheart, Raymond Dean Worden, on July 3,1956 and were married almost 50 years, until he passed away suddenly
in 2006. They were long term residents of the Spring Branch/ Memorial area where they raised their 4 children, Lynn Worden, Larry Worden (Jackie), Paul Worden (deceased) and Diana Worden.
Joyce was always involved in some kind of competitive sport. In high school, she was a synchronized swimmer and over the years was on bowling teams and tennis teams in the Memorial area but was primarily known as an avid golfer until her 70’s and won the Pine Forest Country Club Championship twice. She loved traveling to tournaments with her golfing buddies. It was a passion she shared with her husband, Ray, and he was her biggest fan. Most of their vacations involved traveling to new places that had a great course to play. When she wasn’t on the course, Joyce had many creative outlets to keep her busy. She was an artist, gardener, seamstress, and piano player. She was an avid reader and collector of cookbooks. She loved her family and dedicated her life to make sure they were happy.
Joyce is survived by her children Lynn, Larry & Diana and 10 Grandchildren she was so proud of: Chris Waller (Jenny), Jennifer Maudlin (Robert), Steve Cuttino (Jennifer), Ray Worden (Ashley), Taylor Simmons (Lauren), Zachary Garrison, Cody Simmons (Dani), Jessica Martin (Jason), Joshua LaClerq and Rayna Quammen. She also had 17 great grandchildren and #18 Baby Simmons due in June.
A visitation will be held at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home , located at 13001 Katy Fwy, Houston, TX from 1:00-2:00 pm on Thursday, April 2, 2026. A celebration of life will follow at 2:00 pm. Graveside services will be at Memorial Oaks Cemetery at 3:00 pm.
