Juanita Jacqueline Geyer, known affectionately to all who loved her as Jackie, passed away on the 12th of October 2026, at the age of 95. Her passing marks the close of a long and beautifully lived life, one defined by strength, devotion, and an abiding faith in her Savior, Jesus Christ.
Jackie was born on the 12th of January 1931, in Burkburnett, Texas, and grew up on her family’s dairy farm in Iowa Park, Texas. She was baptized and then confirmed in her faith at Trinity Lutheran Church in Clara, Texas, on the 25th of March 1946, a commitment that would anchor her for the rest of her days. She went on to graduate from St. John's College in Winfield, Kansas, and taught for a short time in McAllen, Texas, before being called to Houston, a move that would shape the remainder of her life.
In August of 1951, she relocated to Houston when she was offered the position of part-time church secretary at St. Matthew Lutheran Church and kindergarten teacher at St. Matthew Lutheran School. She began attending church at St. Matthew and was soon introduced to fellow congregant and “life of the party” Charles Edward Geyer, Sr. They married in 1952, and together they built a home filled with love and purpose. She brought into the world and lovingly reared four children – Chuck, Dianne, Brad, and Stephanie – pouring into each of them her unfaltering love and steadfast commitment. Her family remained the great joy and priority of her life.
In addition to her unwavering care and attention to her family, Jackie worked at various jobs but especially enjoyed and excelled as a residential realtor and as a top sales associate at Dillard’s department store. The store often received letters from customers who took time to express how impressed they were by Jackie’s professionalism and sincere desire to help. And almost every year, the store presented her with a Pacesetter Award for meeting and exceeding employees’ sales goals. She took great pride in working for Dillard’s for twenty years, retiring one month shy of her 85th birthday.
After retirement, she stayed busy volunteering weekly at the Emergency Aid Coalition clothing center and at her beloved St. Matthew Lutheran. In addition, retirement allowed her to spend more time with her grandchildren and attend their activities. She also enjoyed being able to join her friends in a bowling league and for weekly bridge games, which could get quite competitive.
Those who knew Jackie remember her for her remarkable beauty and her quiet strength. She possessed a wonderful dramatic flair, which would shine whenever she told a story. She loved a good embellishment. A passionate lover of all sports, she held a particular fondness for the Astros, volleyball, and bowling, and she took no small amount of pride in her bowling average. Her last game at the age of 94, she defeated three competitors 30 years her junior.
A woman of deep and lasting faith, Jackie lived in the quiet assurance of God's grace, and she now rests in the eternal peace she so faithfully trusted in throughout her life.
Jackie is survived by her four children and their spouses, nine grandchildren, five great grandchildren and six siblings (one sister and five brothers). She is predeceased by her mother and father, Esther and Butch Klinkerman, her sister Colleen, her brother Ralph, and her dear husband Charles Geyer, to whom she was married 54 years.
A service to celebrate and honor the life of Jackie Geyer will be held at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 5315 Main Street, Houston, Texas 77004, on Friday, the 23rd of October 2026, at eleven o’clock in the morning, with a visitation beginning at ten o’clock in the back of the sanctuary. Family and friends are warmly invited to gather in remembrance of a life of faith, love, and enduring grace.
In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial contributions may be directed to St. Matthew Lutheran Church or Alzheimer’s Association of Houston.
Interment will follow, via an escorted cortège, at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery in Houston.
