Julia M. Amelang passed peacefully from this life into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday, the 25th of August 2015, at the age of 77, at her home in Houston in the company of her beloved husband and children.
After graduating high school as Valedictorian, Julia attended Wellesley College and the University of Texas before meeting and marrying the love of her life, Karl Amelang, her husband of fifty-eight years. Julia and Karl shared a full and active life together, being involved in several civic and charitable endeavors in Houston (including helping to organize and co-found the West Family YMCA (now known as the Trotter Family YMCA), and enjoying travel together to many countries around the world.
Julia is best remembered for her lifetime of devoted service to the Body of Christ as a teacher and counselor of women in the Houston area. As a private counselor, small group facilitator, prayer warrior, and ultimately as a leader and teacher of large groups for Bible Study Fellowship and Community Bible Study, Julia was friend, mentor, and example of a godly woman to hundreds of women.
Julia was preceded in death by her parents, Andy and Julia Montgomery of Atherton, California (formerly of Austin, Texas). She is survived by her husband, Karl John Amelang; her children, Karl Andrew Amelang, Julia Amelang Brewster, and Adele Amelang Seger Lita; her grandchildren, Christopher Thomas Brewster, Karl John Amelang II, David Andrew Amelang, Laura Michelle Amelang, Sarah Corbett Amelang, Michael Alan Brewster, William Joseph Amelang, Elizabeth Adams Amelang, Nicholas Karl Seger, Paul Daniel Amelang, Mckenna Carolyn Seger, Kurt Michael Amelang, Hannah Grace Amelang, Timothy Neil Amelang, Mark Samuel Amelang, and Bryan Merrick Amelang; and her great-grandchildren, Karl John Amelang III, Hunter Montgomery Amelang, Christopher Thomas Brewster, Tyler Garrett Amelang, Braeden Alan Brewster, Mia Grace Amelang, and Connor Nathaniel Amelang. The family also wishes to acknowledge and express our heartfelt love for Valerie Sims, devoted caretaker for Julia and honorary family member.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation and viewing with the family from noon until one o’clock in the afternoon on Thursday, the 27th of August at Tallowood Baptist Church, 555 Tallowood Road in Houston. The funeral service is to commence at one o’clock, where Pastor Duane Brooks is to officiate.
The interment will follow, via an escorted cortege, at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery in Houston.
