Julia Ann Ragusa Spedale died on May 23, 2026 in Houston, Texas. Julia was born to Frank and Lena DeForke Ragusa on August 12, 1932 at her home on Wichmann St. in the Houston Heights. She attended grade school at St. Joseph’s Catholic School and graduated from Incarnate Word Academy. Upon graduation she attended Massey Business College.
Julia began working for Foley’s Department Store as a secretary in credit promotion, a job she held until the birth of her daughter. She and Angelo married in 1968 and welcomed Nickie Michelle in 1969. At this point Julia became a stay at home mom. Throughout these years she served as room mom, PO president, field trip chaperone, and a dedicated volunteer at the schools that Nickie attended. She also had a few part time jobs in between. Julia went back to Foley’s and worked in the carpet department at the Northwest Mall store. She was a secretary at Ineeda Linen Company and finally a receptionist at Incarnate Word Academy for nearly 15 years. Her time at IWA was a time she cherished, working side by side with the Sisters who taught her as a student and some who were also her classmates.
Julia was a lifelong resident of the Houston Heights, something that was dear to her. This part of Houston held many memories for her. She was an avid shopper who loved to dress and always had matching accessories and jewelry. She was an excellent cook and baker. Those who knew her always looked forward to her holiday meals and desserts.
Julia’s greatest achievement was her family. She lived for her husband Angelo, daughter Nickie and grandchildren Nicholas and Julia. She loved them fiercely and unconditionally; there was nothing that she wouldn’t do for them.
Julia is preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Lena Ragusa, her husband Angelo Spedale, and her brother Vincent Ragusa. She is survived by her daughter Nickie and husband Michael Bounds. Her grandson Nicholas Angelo Spedale and granddaughter Julia Michelle Bounds. Grandsons Eric and Matthew (Lindsey) Bounds and great grandchildren Alexander and Naomi Bounds.
