

Julian Clark Carpenter of Cypress, Texas went to be with The Lord at the age of 86. Mr. Carpenter is preceded in death by his beloved wife Katherine, his son Kenneth Carpenter, and his daughter Julia Ann Brunson. Mr. Carpenter is survived by his son, Leland Carpenter of Katy, Texas. Julian enlisted in the United States Navy in 1943 to defend our country against the attacks of the Japanese Empire (WWII). He distinguished himself in service, and was accepted into the flag staff of Admiral Marc Mitscher, achieving the rank of Chief Petty Officer. He served under Admiral Mitscher through many famous actions including Midway, Truk, Palau, The Marianas Turkey Shoot, liberation of the Philippines, Iwo Jima, Okinawa, and the Japanese home islands. He was proud that among his combat stations were the helms of the aircraft carriers Hornet (CV17) and USS Lexington (CV16). Julian was called again to serve in the United States Navy during the Korean conflict, aboard the
destroyer USS Sproston (DDE577). Julian further served in the United States Army Reserves after Korea, attaining the rank of
Sergeant First Class. In 1945, Julian married Katherine Lagoudis, beginning their life-long love and marriage of 64 years. Julian and Katherine raised their three children in Houston, Texas, where Julian worked as a supervisor for Borden Milk Co., and later as a U.S. Postal Carrier. In 1965, he founded the Carpenter Trophy and Engraving Company, which he operated until its sale in 1976. He finished his working years as the manager of local hardware stores, and then as an area sales manager for the Hietman Bering-Cortes Co., a hardware wholesaler. Julian and Katherine enjoyed their retirement in Cypress, Texas. Julian was a moral and loving father, who always placed the needs of his family above his own. He was a serious and tireless worker, reliable and kind hearted, and he taught his children to be honest, hard-working, and self-reliant by the example he lived, day-in and day-out. He enjoyed the open water, and fishing. He always had several craft or home projects underway, and he was always eager to help his neighbors when he could.
Visitation will be Saturday, April 7, 2012 from 9:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M. at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home. A celebration of life will follow the visitation on Saturday, April 7, 2012 at 10:00 A.M. in the chapel at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Memorial Oaks Cemetery.
