Julie Anderson passed away peacefully Tuesday, the 1st of March 2011. She was preceded in death by her parents, the late Edwin A. Anderson and Christine Anderson. She is survived by brothers, Edwin A. Anderson III and Hawley West Anderson.
She graduated from St. John's School in 1973 and studied at Hollins College in Virginia and The University of Texas at Austin from which she received a B.A. degree in Art History. While at U.T., she studied under John Canaday and Agnes Mongan, two outstanding Art Historians. She loved the study of Art History and shared her knowledge and passion for art throughout her life with family and friends. Julie also loved to travel and was very interested in cultures abroad. In her twenties, she took part in a student exchange program, The Experiment in International Living, and remained friends for life with people she met at that time. Julie was blessed with a wonderful gift for friendship. She cultivated friendships with people she knew from all times and places in her life. In recent years, friends that she met through her exercise class and Bible Study at St. Martin's Episcopal Church enriched her life greatly and were very supportive during her courageous fight with cancer. She managed also not to neglect mainstay friends, some going back to childhood.
Julie volunteered her time generously to The Houston Ballet, The Houston Garden Club, and The Museum of Natural Science. She was a born administrator and managed well the Edwin A. Anderson estate during long, difficult illnesses with both parents for whom she was the primary caretaker. She battled the challenges of life heroically. In the end, she was grateful to Houston Hospice for their wisdom, love, and support at a critical time. She was also especially grateful to Mrs. Fern Johnson, whose dedicated love and care helped her through her darkest hours. She has entered into peace but remains in the hearts and minds of many forever.
Her memorial service is to be conducted at three o'clock this afternoon, Friday, the 4th of March, at St. Martin's Episcopal Church, 717 Sage Road in Houston, where the Rev. Martin J. Bastian, Senior Associate Rector for Pastoral Care, and the Rev. Katherine F. Picot, Curate, are to officiate.
Immediately following this afternoon's service, all are invited to greet the family during a reception in the adjacent Bagby Parish Hall.
In lieu of customary remembrances, contributions in memory of Julie may be directed to St. Martin's Episcopal Church, 717 Sage Rd., Houston, TX, 77056; the Lester and Sue Smith Breast Care Center, One Baylor Plaza, MS:600, Houston, TX, 77030; or to Houston Hospice, 1905 Holcombe Blvd., Houston, TX, 77030.
