In New York Hospital, N.Y., New York, Justin Gerard Friday Edwards entered the world on January 12, 1977. It was a freezing morning at minus 4 degrees. He lived in New York until his parents relocated to Houston, Texas. He was then almost three.
Growing up, Justin was a typical child of the last “outside” era. He rode bikes, jumped ramps, fished in the bayou, and played “touch on the street tackle on the grass” football. He enjoyed playing Atari, Nintendo and the arcade games at the corner store with all of the neighborhood guys on Saturday mornings. (After the chores were done, of course.) Justin enjoyed Karate at the YMCA and won several championships in his youth soccer league.
Justin attended Post Oak Montessori School for his elementary education, Welch Middle School and Westbury High School. He ran long distance track, was a member of the Air Force JROTC, and was a member of his high school marching band, playing the French horn. He pledged his High School Fraternity and was a proud member of the Gents. G fi G!!! He was also an avid reader of all things.
After high school, Justin made his way to Atlanta, Georgia where he worked in the hospitality department for Swiss Hotel. He made some great friends, and memories. It was in Atlanta where he met the mother of his child, Tenisha.
From Atlanta, Justin migrated to Huntsville Alabama and continued to work in the hospitality industry. At one point he hosted his brother to finish high school in Alabama.
Due to a near-fatal car accident and head injury, he had to alter his lifestyle considerably. Justin eventually found his way back to Houston where he lived out the rest of his days with his family.
Predeceased by his father, George Edwards, he leaves behind his immediate family to include his loving daughter Jazia Monae Townsend- Edwards, his brother Courtney, his mother Cynthia Friday Edwards . There are numerous family members who will feel his absence, especially at family gatherings – his uncle and godfather, Jeffrey Friday, his Uncle Steven Friday (Sandee) cousins Stevie and Tynice and their children, his Aunt Lorraine Jackson (Craig) and cousins Lauren, Linzey and Collin (Andy), Aunt Loretta (Jessie) Dandridge and their four sons – William, Cameron, Evan, and Max. Justin had a host of friends, too many to name here. There is also Uncle John Edwards in Queens, N.Y. and cousins Monique, Tanya, and Tyrone.
He transitioned to a new life on March 1st, and we will no longer hear his voice; but we will remember him with love and laughter and will share memories of the too short of a time he spent in our company.
