

Karen Colleen Tamar, 69, of Hempstead, New York, passed away on December 23, 2025, in Houston, Texas.

Karen was born in Queens, New York, on October 21, 1956, to Redvers and Elma Tamar. She attended Hempstead High School and Long Island Lutheran High School and went on to graduate from Brooklyn College - CUNY with a BS in Accounting in 1978. She later earned her MS in Accounting from the University of Phoenix in 2009. Throughout her career, Karen worked as an Accountant, Senior Accountant, and Controller at several organizations, including Solaris, Cadre, and Global Healthcare. She also served as President of the Stars of Ruth Lodge #26.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Redvers S. Tamar and Elma M. Tamar, and her brother, Raphael S. Tamar.
She is survived by her sister, Camella Simeon, and her brother, Kyron Tamar, along with her nieces: Kemba Tamar, Tanya Elliott, Renee Simeon, Karina Tamar, Keisha Tamar, Gilda Tamar, and Rachel Swaim. She also leaves behind her nephew, Martin Tamar, and a number of grandnieces and grandnephews: Amanda Johnson, Adam Carey, Kaiya Lockwood, Khari Garris, Kairi Alexander, Micah Tamar, Kayden Lockwood, Raylan Tamar, Mateo Tamar, and Gabriel Johnson (great grandnephew).
Karen will be remembered for her infectious laugh, unwavering work ethic, and her deep love for family and friends. She had a passion for books and travel, especially those cherished journeys to the beach. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved her.
