Karin Kai-In Yang Han was born in 1951 in Taipei, Taiwan. She was the first daughter of Mr Wei-Chen Yang and Mrs. Shen-Min Lu. She has three younger brothers: Kai-Shun in Taiwan, Kai-Li in Canada and Kai-Jei in Houston.
Karin had completed her education from kindergarten to college in Taipei. Her classmates remember her as a healthy, happy girl, a behaved student, and an obedient daughter at home. During her college days, Karin was a piano accompanist to the school choir. Choir conductor Mrs. Han introduced Karin to her son Peter.
After dating three years, in 1973 Karin and Peter married at the largest Catholic Church in Taipei and the ceremony was given by Cardinal Yu-Bin. In order for Karin to be married into a Catholic family, she had to attend a six-month study course administered by the Catholic father and be baptized her before marrying Peter. "The Lord's Prayer” was the first thing the Father taught her and had to be memorized by heart. Even now, she still carries a note card with "The Lord's Prayer" in purse with her everyday. Each time, when she was confused or bothered by her problems, Karin would also look at her "Serenity Prayer" card which she also carried in her purse.
Karin's first son, Paul, was born in 1974 in Taiwan. Just one month later, Peter came to Texas A&M for his advanced education. One year later, Karin brought Paul to College Station and reunited with Peter. In 1976, Peter got a job with Diamond Shamrock. The Han family of three moved and settled in Dumas, TX.
Two years later, she had her second son Joseph. At that time, the Han family was the first and only Chinese family in Dumas. Karin stayed home taking care of the kids and learned how to be a typical housewife in America at that time such as: learning to drive, grocery shopping, doctor’s office visits, writing checks, etc. A lot of new things had to be learned quickly to survive. These were not easy coming from a different culture but she never complained. Instead, she was always happy to learn new skills and make new friends.
After both kids began their schooling, Karin started to plan her own life having just moved to Amarillo, TX. She saw an ad in the newspaper that H&R Block was offering tax courses with the possibility of becoming employed as a tax preparer. That was the start of Karin working at H&R Block for 17 years as a seasonal tax preparer and instructor of tax training courses. Since it was part time she was still able to care for the kids after the school day ended which was always her number one priority.
After both kids went to college, Karin got a full-time job at Bank of Oklahoma in Tulsa. She started as a teller but quickly worked her way up to teller supervisor and finally as the trust tax specialist in the bank's Trust Department. Before Karin retired in 2018, she was a trust tax accountant at a private CPA firm in Oklahoma City. She was also credentialed by the IRS as an Enrolled Agent for 20 years.
In 2018 we moved to Eagle's Trace Retirement Community from Oklahoma City. Again Karin started to establish a new life and make new friends with her happy personality, willingness to help, and love for participation in lots of volunteer work. Because of her bright, happy nature and concern for others, Karin always felt welcomed and accepted by almost all the people and groups she encountered.
Peter, Karin's husband, has known her for 54 years since she was a 19 year-old college girl. He would like to tell her friends that she had a happy, wonderful, and fulfilled life and shall be remembered.
