Karl Joseph Mattix

MATTIX, Karl, "Bummie", age 91, born in Butte, MT, passed away Tuesday, August 6, 2024. He was a graduate of Butte High School. Karl worked in several positions in his 43 year mining career and retired as a Safety Engineer with Arch Coal. Karl also served 31 years in the US Army Reserves and retired as a First Sergeant, E-8. Karl was actively involved in several Pentecostal churches. Karl was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend of many. He enjoyed camping and fishing. Karl was an avid New York Yankees fan. Preceded in death by his parents Raymond and Winifred Mattix; son Stephen “Red” Mattix and five brothers, Raymond, Phillip, Robert, Charles and Melvin. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Betty L.; son, David A. Mattix and his wife Carolyn and son Rodney K. Mattix and his wife, Christina; 8 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
