February 18, 1924 – April 13, 2019
Katherine Elizabeth Hebert (Young), age 95, joined her husband, family and friends in the kingdom of heaven on April 13, 2019. She passed without pain, surrounded by family at Nan’s House, a personal care home, in Spring, TX. The Hebert family would like extend a sincere appreciation to Vicki Webb and her staff for the kind and compassionate care they gave Katherine.
“Nannie,” as she was lovingly referred to by family, lived a long and beautiful life and will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Dr. Raymond.T “Bubba” Hebert. Katherine is survived by her two sons, Clyde Ray Hebert and wife, Janet Hebert; grandson, Clay Hebert and wife, Morgan Hebert; Son, Bruce Hebert and wife, Emilie Hebert; Granddaughter, Kristi Ratcliffe and husband, Paul Ratcliffe; Great Grandchildren, Holly and Ben Ratcliffe; Granddaughter, Laura Bennett and husband, Philip Bennett.
Katherine was born in Orange, TX in 1924 to her mother and father, Emilie and John Oliver Young. Her father passed when she was a baby but she had her siblings, Marie Emily Young Dodge, Elma Young Oubre, Edna Young Cato, John O. Young, to sustain. She was a bright, adventurous, caring young woman who was at the top of her class and went on to become a great nurse. During WW2 she met her future husband and they were married on April 20, 1946. They moved to College Station, TX as Dr. Hebert finished his veterinarian school, and they had their first son, Clyde. They then moved to Beaumont, TX started a vet clinic, and had their second son, Bruce. Katherine described this time with her two young boys as some of the happiest in her whole life. They then moved to Houston, Tx where they spent the remainder of their years. Dr. Hebert passed suddenly in 1985, and though the pain was immense, Katherine’s unwavering faith sustained her. Katherine was a member of St. Cecilia’s Catholic Community, where she spent every Sunday morning that she could. Katherine was known for her refined elegance and impeccable fashion sense. She always carried herself with style and grace. She spent much of the later years, playing (and winning) plenty of bridge games with her dear friends, and sharing beautiful memories, over delicious meals, with her family.
Katherine was a great listener, a fun story teller, and a kind soul to sit with. She was loved in this life and we know she is in the Lord’s loving embrace now. She will be laid to rest on on Thursday, April 18th, 2019. There will be a public viewing and visitation in her honor at 9:00 A.M. followed by funeral service at 10:30 A.M. at American Heritage Funeral Home, 10710 Veterans Memorial Dr. Houston, TX 77038. This will be followed by an interment service at 12:30 P.M. at Memorial Oaks Cemetery, 13001 Katy Freeway Houston, TX 77079.
