Kae was a beloved wife and mother as well as a follower of Jesus Christ. She was born in Corpus Christi, Texas, on September 4, 1940, to Ross Kenneth Weber, Sr., and Elsie Dietz Weber. She graduated from Harlingen High School in 1957, and went on to earn a BS in Education from Southwest Texas State College in San Marcos in 1961. After moving to Pasadena and teaching elementary education for a number of years, Kae then became a social worker at DePelchin Faith Home in Houston. She married Hershal Dean Theilen of Lahoma, OK, on May 4, 1968, at Zion Lutheran Church in Pasadena, Texas.
Kae loved history and genealogy. During a college Texas history course, the professor challenged each student to examine and document their own history. She took up the challenge becoming an avid researcher putting together four separate documents on her family history. Before electronic records and the Internet, she pored over library documents, filtered through collection after collection of photographs, walked through countless cemeteries, and interviewed many family members in her search. Kae and Hershal saw to it that yearly reunions were established and attended, and many of those yearly events continue today.
Kae was an active member of Gethsemane Lutheran Church for over 40 years. She served on the Altar Guild, sewed and embroidered baptismal cloths, taught Bible classes, and chaired the Fellowship Committee. She enjoyed singing in the church choir as well as special music. Kae was an active member of several community and historical societies including the Daughters of the Republic of Texas. She has also served on the Board for both The Heritage Society and the Houston Hemerocallis Society. Kae and Hershal have sponsored The Heritage Society Candlelight Tour as a Host Family for many years. Kae has also participated in many flower shows grooming and showing the day lilies Hershal grows. She has also been an American Hemerocallis Society Flower Judge for several years. She was generous in her time and efforts passing down to her children and grandchildren the rich heritage she lived out in the place she treasured.
Katherine is survived by her husband of 46 years, Hershal Theilen; her children Katherine Hope Davis of Calgary, Canada, Ross Dean Theilen of Denver, and Carol Lyn Theilen of Houston; her brother Ross Kenneth Weber, Jr. of Kerrville, and her sister Carolyn Weber Schwartz of San Benito; and 5 grandchildren.
There will be a visitation at Pat Foley Funeral Home on December 30, from 5pm to 8pm. The funeral will be held at Gethsemane Lutheran Church on December 31 at 10am with interment at Glenwood Cemetery immediately after. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Daughters of the Republic of Texas – San Jacinto Chapter; Gethsemane Lutheran Church; or The Heritage Society at Sam Houston Park.
