Kathryn Spillane

Kathryn Frances (Kay) Spillane, 94, born April 10, 1918, died November 14, 2012. Kathryn was born in Morristown, NJ to James and Blanche Grady. Kay was the second of five children, Mary, Elizabeth, James and Patricia, and is survived by her sister Patricia Grady. Kathryn graduated from Bayley High School in Morristown NJ, and from the College of St. Elizabeth, also in Morristown, with a Bachelor of Science degree. Kathryn taught high school for many years, and in 1945 married Leo J. Spillane. Kathryn and Leo were married for almost forty-one years, before Leo died in 1985. Kathryn and Leo are survived by their seven children, Stacia, Houston TX; Margaret (married to Henry Steinhoff, deceased), Katy TX; Jerry (married to Molly Matlin), Indianapolis IN; Kathi (married to Linwood Fiedler), Willow AK; Janet (married to Robert Davis), Clear Lake TX; John (married to Bernadette Smid), Littleton, CO; and James (married to Nancy McDonald), San Marcos, CA. Kathryn also had thirteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren (with one on the way). Kathryn was a wonderful sister, mother, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother. She had a delightful sense of humor and was loved by all. Kathryn volunteered at the Catholic Women's Charity Guild and at St. John Vianney Catholic Church. A prayer service will be held at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, TX on Sunday, November 18, from 6-8 pm, and a funeral mass will be held at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 625 Nottingham Oaks Trail, Houston, TX at 10:30 am on Monday, November 19th.
