Kathy Mikel Hurst

Kathy Mikel Hurst passed from this life on Monday, October 12, 2026 in Houston. Known as Kate by her Houston friends, she passed after a brief illness at age 72. She was born on November 16, 1953 in Waxahachie, Texas. She graduated from W. T. White High School in Dallas and from Texas Tech University in Lubbock. It was in Lubbock that she met the love of her life, Ronald Lee Hurst.

Kate and Ron were avid golfers. They were long time members of Hearthstone Country Club. In addition to being an active member, Kate was Vice President of the Hearthstone Ladies Golf Association.

The couple moved to Houston where she went to work for Sava Senior Care. She retired from Sava as Vice President of Information Technology.

Kate will be laid to rest beside her parents, E. D. and Earl Mikel, at Sparkman Hillcrest Memorial Park in Dallas. Ron preceded her in death in 2013. She is survived by two daughters, Andrea Hurst of Kansas City, Mo. , Alicia Farmer and husband Eric of Kansas City, Mo.; brother Tilden Mikel and wife Gayle of Fort Worth; granddaughter Anna Pritchard, Nicholas Boston (Elizabeth Boston) and Kendra Durkin (Sean Durkin) , Emily Roberts, Tori Farmer, Kaylea Farmer and great grandchildren Nicholas Boston, Emily Boston and Lily Durkin, and multiple nieces and nephews.
