Kay Bryant went to be with her Lord and Savior on March 1, 2021. She was a devoted Christian, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She valiantly battled cancer for over 30 years.
Kay was born August 31, 1941, to George Sam and Cora McWhorter of Iola, Texas. She attended Sam Houston State University where she met the love of her life, Robert (Bob). They married in 1963 and eventually settled in Houston, Texas, where they raised their 2 sons. Kay graduated with a B.B.A. and a music minor and was a member of the A Capella Choir. She received her Master of Education from the University of Houston and taught for 25 years in the Houston and Spring Branch school districts.
Kay loved reading, crossword puzzles, cooking, playing Canasta and Bridge, watching old movies and TV shows, and decorating their home for all seasons, including a spectacular Christmas village the entire family enjoyed. She will always be remembered for patiently teaching her children and grandchildren to cook special family recipes, especially for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Kay never forgot her country roots, as she loved fishing and fish fries, picking dewberries to make homemade dewberry pies and jelly, and anything that got the family together in the country. At the same time, Kay had her own fashion style – the more colors the better! And of course a lady can never have too many shoes!
Kay had a servant’s heart her entire life. She served in PTAs, Booster Clubs, and Aggie Moms. She was a member of Tallowood Baptist Church and served for many years in the Prayer Room, children’s classrooms and the choir. Kay was a fervent prayer warrior and had a gift for sending written cards and notes to family, friends, and anyone who needed a special touch. She was a gifted listener and wise advisor with just the right word of encouragement.
Kay is survived by her husband of 57 years, Robert (Bob); son Robert Michael (Mike), Jr, and wife Julie of Houston, TX; Samuel Mark (Mark) and wife Laura of Celina, TX; sister Neta Jean (Jo) Chesney of Conroe, TX; nephew Greg Chesney and wife Flor of Richardson, TX; granddaughters Camille Kay Weber and husband Spencer of Celina, TX; Katelyn Marie Bryant of Dallas, TX; Brittany Kay Bryant of Houston, TX; Madison Elaine Bryant of Houston, TX; grandson Robert Michael (Trey), III of Houston, TX; great granddaughter Kinley Kay Weber of Celina, TX; great nephew Jack Chesney of Richardson, TX; and great nieces Iola and Ana Chesney of Richardson, TX.
Visitation will be Friday, March 12th, 2021, from 5-8pm at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Fwy, Houston, TX, 77079.
