Kenneth Ralph Ahrens, 93 years young, known as Poppy to those who loved him the most, was called home to heaven on Friday, January 5th. He was preceded on his journey by his son, Jeffrey Scott Ahrens, and he leaves behind innumerable friends and family who will long remember his positive outlook and a one of a kind spirit, among them are his wife of 67 years, Lois Rita Ahrens; his daughter Christine Ahrens and her husband Richard Poole; his son Ken J. Ahrens and his wife Kay; his daughter-in-law Donna Ahrens; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Also left to cherish Ken's memory, are his sister Alice Ahrens Dykstra, her husband Ralph, of St. Anne, IL and his brother Carl William Ahrens and his life partner, Barbara Johnson both of Houston, Texas.

In lieu of sending flowers, the family invites you to honor Poppy's life by taking a walk in the sunshine, sharing a joke with a friend or making a hole-in-one! Poppy loved living - he loved life. He taught us to live life to the fullest, always give it our best, and be kind to others. Poppy taught us all that LOVE is really what it's all about. His memory will endure in our hearts forever, and we are thankful he rests in peace with our Lord.

Join the family members for visitation at 9:00am, with funeral services at 10:00am at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Freeway on Friday, January 12th.

A private graveside will follow the chapel service.

I have enjoyed Ken's company many times as we played golf around Houston since my meeting him in 1988. We also traveled to many state and national left hand golf tournaments together. I will miss Ken a lot.

My fondest memories of Mr. Ahrens was coming to high school baseball games and seeing him in the stands with his headphones on listening to Astros baseball, and at the same time not missing a beat on the boys on the field. Our condolences go out to the family, and may God bless each and all of you.

Ken was a good friend and fun golfing buddy. We played many fun rounds. His fun and jokes were never ending. He has done many things to enhance Lefty Golf and will always be remembered for his involvement. He will truly be missed by all Lefty Golfers everywhere. May he rest in peace. I met Ken through a program called The Gathering at Chapelwood United Methodist Church. He was teaching the exercise class once a month. When I learned how old he was, I was amazed. From then on, I have been a fan and follower . He was indeed an asset to all who knew him. I can picture him getting that hole in one in Heaven!! With fond memories, Nancy E

Ken was a wonderful, sweet man, so active and aware. My maiden name was Ahrens, so he always called me "cousin!" He will truly be missed by many!
