Kenneth Lee Carr, 63, of Houston passed away on February 2, 2015 at Midland Memorial Hospital due to complications from surgery. He was born on June 19, 1951 to Raymond E. Carr and Velma Marie Carr in Houston, Texas. He is survived by his mother, Velma and his older brother Jerry Carr.
Kenneth was a 4th generation Houstonian, attending West University Elementary, Pershing Junior High, then graduating from Lamar High School in 1970. He was President of the FFA at Lamar High, and later went on to participate in FFA with his son, Dylan in Midland. He took his passion for science and animals and graduated from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville with a degree in Agricultural Science. As a young adult, Kenneth was a professional rodeo cowboy, competing in both bull riding and bareback until a terrible back injury. He continued to be an active member of the Professional Pro Rodeo Cowboy Association throughout his life until he passed. In his 20's Ken was one of the original members of the Houston-based Goodyear Blimp flight team. He travelled the country with the blimp, doing appearances and flyovers nationwide and in Canada, and loved to tell stories from that exciting time. Kenneth was a man of many interests and varied talents, always with a passion to learn new things. He was gifted with animals, and though he never would have considered himself as such, Ken was an artist. He created beautiful leatherwork, innovative furniture pieces, and his knowledge and appreciation for music was unbelievably expansive. But his true passion was his family. Kenneth married Gayle Jackson of Galveston in 1978. Though now divorced, they were married nearly 30 years and raised a beautiful family together. He is survived by his two children, Rachael Carr of Willis, Texas and Dylan Carr of Midland Texas. Grandchildren, Aubrey June Longmire and Noah James Longmire, and son-in-law Jerry Wayne Longmire of Willis. Ken loved to laugh and have a good time. He was a kind and generous man filled with pride for his children, and would have gone to the ends of the earth for them. He had hoped to be remembered as a man filled with love and concern for his family, and he most certainly is.
Funeral services will he held and Brookside Funeral Home (Lauder location) in Houston. Services will be officiated by Governor Clements of Candlelight Church of Christ of Houston, with burial to follow. We welcome your attendance.
