Kenneth Wood Dusek
July 4, 1938 – March 6, 2018
Ken Dusek, passed away at his home on Tuesday, the 6th of March, 2018. He was born in Galveston, Texas on the 4th of July, 1938 to Ray and Velma Dusek. His mother always told him that the fireworks were to celebrate his birthday. He grew up in Oklahoma City where he graduated from Northwest Classen High School in the class of 1956. He attended Southern Methodist University where he graduated with a degree in Finance in 1960. He was a member and an officer of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. Upon graduating, he joined the U.S. Army Reserves for two years. During that time he moved to Houston, Texas and began to work for Merrill Lynch Investments. For over the next 50 years, Ken worked as a stockbroker in Houston finishing his career with UBS.
While at graduate school at Southern Methodist University, he met and later married his wife of over 50 years, Ruth Ann, who passed away on October 1st of last year. Their marriage was built around their Christian faith. Ken and Ruth Ann were very active members of Christ Evangelical Presbyterian Church and in multiple Bible studies that met at their house throughout the week. Ken and Ruth Ann started and then chaired an annual golf tournament for their church that raised money for missionaries. Ken served as a role model, mentor, and friend to many of his church colleagues as well as his clients.
Ken was a member of Lakeside Country Club where he served as President. He enjoyed his golf groups that he regularly played with. He was involved with the Life Begins at 40 golf tournament in Harlingen, Texas. Ken also enjoyed hunting in South Texas with his friends and relaxing at their beach house in Galveston.
Ken and Ruth Ann are survived by their two sons, Kenneth Michael Dusek and Mark William Dusek (married to Carol Schwieger Dusek) and their five grandchildren; Lacee, Sarah, Philip, Stephen, and Luke. They were both loving parents and grandparents who will be missed greatly.
A memorial service is to be conducted at half past one o’clock in the afternoon on Saturday, the 10th of March, at the Christ Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 8300 Katy Freeway in Houston.
The family will have previously gathered for a private interment at Memorial Oaks in Houston.
