Hugh Kenneth “Ken” Lunsmann was born November 21, 1947 in Hallettsville, Texas and passed away peacefully with his family by his side on December 13, 2022 after just a 2 week battle with pneumonia in Cypress, Texas. He was known by many names: Ken, Kenny, Kenneth Wayne, Pops, Uncle Pops, Grand Pops, Uncle Quacker and probably many others. Ken was always the corny joke teller, although once you had heard most of his jokes by the 100th time, they got a little old, but it never stopped him from telling them again. Living in Hearthstone for over 36 years, it was very hard for him to leave his golf game and his golfing buddies (the Monkey Rack), but he knew this was going to be the best thing not only for him but also for his wife in the long run. No one could have predicted his time would be this limited after the move – less than 3 years. But his time in the Bridgeland home was wonderful. He loved sitting on the back porch enjoying the lake behind the house with his brother-in-law, Larry Kristynik, drinking a beer and watching golf, football, baseball or whatever on a beautiful day.
Ken was a graduate of the University of Texas and loved his Longhorns. It didn’t matter what sport they were playing, he watched them. But of course football was his favorite and Vince Young was his hero for that national championship. The only thing he loved more than the Longhorns was watching his daughter, Leslie, compete in swimming and his daughter, Lyndsay’s dance performances. He loved his girls more than anything. Ken also loved his English Bulldogs. Tony was first, then came Bailey. They were always together, and Bailey seems very lost right now looking for him. He worked for 10 years for Brown & Root, then another 35 years at the family business, Buffaloe Floor Covering. His music interests spread from George Jones and Merle Haggard to Dave Mathews and even Kanye West’s Gold Digger and Dr Dre’s No Diggity. His nurses thought his play list was hilarious!
Ken was preceded in death by his parents, Hans and Georgia Lunsmann and brother Hal Lunsmann all from Hallettsville. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Denie Buffaloe Lunsmann of Cypress, daughter, Leslie Johnston and husband Ryan of Cypress, daughter Lyndsay Del Rio and husband Enrique of Katy, grandchildren Liam and Leigh Johnston of Cypress, and baby on the way, Kenley Del Rio; sister and brother in law, Renie & Larry Kristynik of Cypress, nephews Kurt Kristynik and wife, Marti of Cypress, Kyle Kristynik and wife, Tiffany of Cypress and Cole Kristynik, and wife, Whitney of Cypress; great-nephews Cole Mc, Klayton, Klein and Hudson Kristynik, and great-niece, Chance Kristynik and a host of friends, work colleagues and golf buddies.
A special thanks to Enhabit Home Health Physical and Occupational therapists who were getting him moving and stronger before all of this happened. Another special thanks to all of the doctors and nurses at HCA North Cypress who were so compassionate and caring and a shout out to Dr. Julius DeBroeck who always lent his common sense take on everything and calmed us all down. Ken will be missed incredibly.
