Kevin was born at Hermann Hospital in Houston, Texas to Calvin and Natalie Gorzycki Kelling on June 5, 1964. He died on December 12, 2022 at his home with his mother and brother at his side after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Kevin attended HISD public school at Travis Elementary in Houston and went on to graduate from Scarborough High School in 1982 and attended Houston Community College. Kevin did well in school, but music to him was all that mattered. He was a born musician and said he didn’t want to go to college because his friend that also was “a born musician” went to college and studied music and “it ruined it for him”. He and his friends formed a band they called “No ID” and every hour not spent working or in the classroom was spent with the “garage band”. The group wrote all of their own music and did well playing at birthday parties, weddings, concerts, school activities, etc.
Kevin worked all through high school at Randall’s as a part-time sacker and stocker. He continued to work for Randall’s for several years after high school as assistant manager of Housewares. He knew the grocery business well and on February 18, 2015, he went to work at HEB in the Pricing Department and was going into Management Training when he was diagnosed with cancer. The chemotherapy treatments made him unable to return to work or appear on stage again.
Kevin never married. He is survived by his mother, Natalie Gorzycki Kelling and his brother, Mark Kelling, both of Houston, and his Aunt Christine Kelling Janner. He was preceded in death by his father Calvin Kelling, who died in an automobile accident on the eve of Kevin’s birthday on June 4, 1998. He was also preceded in death by many aunts and uncles and cousins as well as friends.
Kevin is a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Houston.
