Kevin Brian McErlean, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend and Christ follower was called home on Tuesday, the 25th of October 2016, after a decade long battle with heart failure. Those who knew Kevin remember him as a loving and devoted family man, a hard worker and a man with an endearing sense of humor and a tireless desire to hear, tell and re-tell good stories.
Kevin was born in Yonkers, New York on the 13th of January 1962, to Thomas J. and Debbie McErlean. Brother Dennis arrived in 1967 and then in 1971, the family migrated to Houston, Texas, settling in the Sharpstown area. There, Kevin enjoyed playing little league baseball, with his mom as the team mom, but quickly gave up his sports career as his work ethic kicked in at a very young age. He began mowing neighbors’ lawns and very soon was approached by virtually every homeowner in his the neighborhood, due to the precision and care he applied to his work, mowing, edging, trimming and sweeping.
Kevin attended Strake Jesuit College Prep, Sharpstown High School and then Houston Baptist University, and met the love of his life, Anne, while working at Wilson’s Department Store, and married on the 8h of October 1983, after which they had two children, Meagan Elizabeth in 1989 and Sean Patrick in 1994.
Kevin spent 30 years of dedicated service as the warehouse manager at Ram Chemical, a wholesale swimming pool chemical company, until after they were acquired in 2012. While at Ram, Kevin formed many lifelong friendships with colleagues who were much like an extended family.
They say that behind every strong man is a strong supportive woman, and Anne was Kevin’s. She was his best friend, confidante and partner during all the years of their marriage, and cared and comforted him during his battle with heart issues. This year, Kevin and Anne shared the joy surrounding the arrival of their first grandchild, Presley, who was and forever will be Kevin’s little princess. If you know Kevin and haven’t received a photo of her, you must not own a cell phone.
Kevin was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by Anne, Meagan, Sean, Sean’s wife Shae and baby Presley, as well as his brother Dennis and his wife Jodi, and numerous extended family within Texas and in the Northeast.
The family would like to thank the physicians and staff at Memorial Hermann Hospital, for their care and support for Kevin during his various hospitalizations, and in particular Dr. Pranav Loyalka, Dr. Igor Gregoric and Dr. Sririam Nathan, and also Dr. Phillip Berman from Memorial Cardiology Associates.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from nine until eleven o’clock in the morning on Friday, the 28th of October in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
Following the visitation, the funeral service will be conducted at eleven o’clock also in the Jasek Chapel with a reception immediately following in the nearby grand foyer.
The internment will follow, via an escorted cortege, at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery, 12800 Westheimer Road in Houston.
In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, PO Box 841125, Dallas, TX 75284-1125 (https://donatenow.heart.org/).
