With gratitude to God for a fulfilled and well spent life, we announce the passing on to glory of our beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, cousin, and pastor.
Pastor Kolawole Olufunso Sonaike went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 20, 2022. He died suddenly at his residence in Ikeji-Arakeji, Osun State, Nigeria at the age of 70 years. He was a devout Christian, educator, philanthropist, sacred music enthusiast, family man, and a natural leader. He lived a life of excellence and aggressive faith in God.
Prof. Sonaike was known for his unceasing desire to meet the needs of those around him. He was always ready to provide an encouraging word and to challenge others to strive for greater heights. Whether as a Scoutmaster, Choirmaster, Pastor, Corporate Executive, Department Chair, Vice Chancellor, or as Priest of his home, he was a servant leader and relied on the guidance of God. He led by example and lived his life with his eye on the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus (Phil 3:14).
Based in Houston, Texas, with his immediate family, his passion for making a lasting impact in his native country and Christ Apostolic Church Mission propelled him to serve a term as the Vice Chancellor of Joseph Ayo Babalola University in Ikeji-Arakeji, Nigeria. Prof. Sonaike was a lifelong learner, and his thirst for knowledge spurred him toward earning multiple Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral degrees in a wide range of fields including engineering, business, and management. He was even on the verge of completing his third doctoral degree (Theology) at the time of his death.
Indeed, he has touched uncountable lives. His shoes cannot be filled, but his footprints will be evident for many generations. He now rests safe in the arms of Jesus Christ. He is survived by his loving wife, three sons, a daughter, brothers, sisters, many extended family members, and the family of God at large.
His is truly a life to be celebrated. The ceremonies will be in the United States and in Nigeria. The U.S. events are scheduled for April 22-23, 2022 in Houston, Texas, at Garden Oaks Funeral Home, and the interment at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery, followed by a reception at Expo Event Center on Bellaire Blvd.
Please avoid wearing black to the events!
