Kuang Shung Hsu
February 13, 1937 – August 31, 2019
Kuang Shung Hsu of Sugar Land, Texas passed away peacefully at the age of 82 on August 31, 2019. He was born on February 13, 1937 in Hemei Township of Chung Hwa County, Taiwan to Ching San Hsu and A-Su Shieh, as the first of six children.
He was an exceptional student, being awarded many top honors throughout his youth. He attended the National Taiwan University. After serving one year in military service, he went to work as a structural engineer in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. He later graduated with a Master’s degree in Engineering from West Virginia University and briefly attended Columbia University, working on his doctorate. He worked as a structural engineer for thirty years, first on nuclear projects at Ebasco and then later for the New York Transit Authority.
He travelled the world. As a child, he lived in Japan and Taiwan. As an adult, he resided in West Virginia, New York City, New Jersey and Texas. After retiring to Texas, he travelled throughout North America, Hawaii, Europe and Asia. He especially enjoyed returning to Japan.
At home, he enjoyed reading and reciting Chinese poems. More importantly, he loved being with his friends and family, particularly his five grandchildren.
He arrived as a follower of his Savior Jesus Christ late in life. He was baptized in December 2018. He was a faithful member of the Evangelical Formosan Church of Houston.
He is survived by his loving wife of fifty-four years, Shu Hua; sons, Charles and Peter; their respective wives, Lisa and Karen; grandchildren, Michael, Thomas, Isabella, Madeline and Maximillian; a brother, Guang Hui; sisters, Mei Hua, Mei Yan, Alice and Yue Mei; and numerous cousins, nephews and nieces.
Services will be held at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas 77079 on Saturday, September 14, 2019. Viewing will begin at 9 AM that day. The Celebration of Life services will commence at 10 AM.
