

Life Epitome
On September 28, 1947, a beautiful baby boy was born in Livingston, Texas to the parents of Douglas Flenory and Bernice Bridgewater. He lived and was raised in Cleveland, Texas and graduated from Douglas High School. Also, he was active in several sports and later moved to Houston, Texas to attend trade school and begin to work at the Port of Houston.
During his tenure at the Port of Houston, he was seriously injured in a bad car accident resulting in a brain injury which prohibited him from working.
As a believer in Christ from a child until adulthood, he attended North Mt. Olive Baptist Church. By many family and friends, he was known as “a gentle giant.” Also, he was an amateur artist yet he drew like a professional and had the opportunity to draw one of his siblings wedding before his injury.
Later in life, he attended Lighthouse Church of Houston and Ministries from Summer Creek High School to the church moving in a church building that now resides at 6650 Rankin Road under the pastoral leadership of Senior Pastor Keion Henderson. His name is engraved on the black cross at Lighthouse. As he became ill more and more, he was unable to attend church services as he desired to do so.
He is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Edward Veal Flenory, Sampson Flenory and Willie Flenory. His memory will be cherished by his daughter, Latrice J. Flenory Charles; siblings: Annie Mae Flenory-Perry, Annie Lee Flenory, Yvonne Flenory-Stafford, and one brother, Clifton L. Flenory. Also, he has five grandchildren (two young men and three young ladies) and twenty-three great grandchildren, a host of precious nieces and nephews.
A visitation for Lj will be held Saturday, March 16, 2024 from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM at Paradise Funeral Home, Inc, 10401 West Montgomery, Houston, TX 77088.
