Lan Chih Chao, age 84, of Friendswood, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, March 13, 2024. Born in Korea on August 21, 1939, she was the cherished daughter of Shao Dong Chou and Ze Ching Pi, who both preceded her in passing. Also predeceased by Lan Ying Chou (Wang) and Lan Feng Chou (Wu), Lan's life was a tapestry of rich experiences and deep connections.
Engaged on November 1, 1955, Lan married the love of her life, Yuan Chao. Their partnership, marked by shared dreams and mutual support, was deeply enriched by Yuan's unwavering love and admiration for her, coming to an end with Yuan's passing on July 5, 1987. Left to honor Lan's legacy are her beloved children: Sung Ling Chao, Tsai Ling Chao (Wang), Yueh Ling Chao (Dyals), Kun Ling Chao, and Shueh Ling Chao (Muh), along with thirteen grandchildren who brought her immense joy and pride. Lan's life was further enriched by the company of numerous friends and family members, whose lives she touched deeply.
Lan was very active in her church and participated in the women's group back in Korea, contributing significantly to her community through her faith and actions. This involvement not only reflected her spiritual devotion but also her commitment to serving others, a trait she carried with her throughout her life and mirrored in her personal pursuits and hobbies. Whether collecting unique items from her travels, engaging in musical endeavors, or simply spending time with her loved ones, she embraced life's moments with enthusiasm and grace.
A woman of diverse interests and talents, Lan relished the joy of traveling, exploring new cultures and landscapes with an open heart. Her passion for reading opened the doors to worlds both imagined and real, while her love for singing and playing musical instruments filled her home with melody. Lan's appreciation for drama reflected her understanding of the human condition, and her conversations were often sprinkled with insights gleaned from her favorite shows.
Visitation for Lan Chih Chao will be held on Monday, March 18, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home, 12800 Westheimer Road, Houston, TX. A funeral service will be conducted on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM, at the same location. Following the funeral, a committal service will take place at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery, with a reception to follow, where family and friends can share memories and celebrate Lan's remarkable life.
