Larry Dean Forbes

Larry, one of 4 sons to Ed and Bonnie Forbes, was born March 30, 1948 in Johnson City, Tennessee. In 1967, he joined the United States Navy. In 1969 he graduated from the Field Medical Service School at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune in North Carolina. After graduation, he deployed to the Republic of Vietnam as a Corpsman for the 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines. During his service, Larry received the following awards and commendations: National Defense Service Medal; Combat Action Ribbon; Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device; Vietnam Service Medal with Fleet Marine Force Combat Insignia and Bronze Star; Navy Commendation Medal with Combat Distinguishing Device; and Purple Heart Medal for wounds received on May 8, 1970.

After his honorable discharge, Larry became one of the first physician assistants in the State of Maryland. He lived in the Baltimore, Maryland area for many years after that, but, in 1983, he moved to Houston, Texas and took over a medical sales distributorship. From 1983 until his retirement, Larry maintained a thriving business in medical sales.

Outside his career, Larry enjoyed boating, motorcycles, and was a car enthusiast. However, the true highlight of his life was being a father to his son and grandfather ("Pop") to his twin grandchildren.

Larry is survived by his loving son, Sean, and wife Kathy and their twins, Logan and Liam. Larry is also survived by two of his brothers, Roy Forbes of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania and Ron Forbes of Bel Air, Maryland, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother, Bonnie Ledford Forbes, his father, Ed Forbes, and his brother, James Forbes.

Visitation will be Thursday, April 20, 2017 from 5PM to 8PM at American Heritage Funeral Home. Graveside Services will be on Friday, April 21, 2017 at 10:30AM at Houston National Cemetery. Friends and family will gather at American Heritage Funeral Home at 10AM prior to the Graveside Service.
