Larry Joseph Hamilton was born December 24,1951 in Houston, Texas to the late Chancis and Willie Mae Davis Hamilton. The youngest of seven, Larry proudly served as the baby of the family who were raised in the Fifth Ward of Houston, Texas.
It was in his childhood that Larry began one of his favorite activities, making a joyful noise unto the LORD in the church choir. He also loved the game of football, having played for both Kashmere High School and his alma mater, Texas Southern University in Houston, Texas. A track and field MVP as well, Larry displayed great athleticism throughout his young life.
After earning his Bachelor’s in Physical Education, Larry decided to continue his ongoing career with United Parcel Service. Driving big rigs trucks became an activity he enjoyed so much that he stayed on for over 40 years until retirement.
On August 16th, 1980, he married the love of his life, Marsadell Reagan, at Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church where they both declared membership as faithful servants of GOD. Larry was dearly loved by his church family. He served as a member of the mass choir, a director of the male chorus, and was an active member of the deacon board, and the Sunday School.
Larry dedicated his life to his church, his family, and to putting a smile on everyone’s face. Two things he always had were a joke and a solo. He enjoyed attending every church service possible, meeting with his sisters, brother, and the rest of his family.
On October 11, 2023, Larry was called home by the Lord. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marsadell Hamilton, his parents, Willie Mae and Chancis Hamilton, his sisters, Betty H Crawford, Trevie Hamilton, and Willie Montgomery.
He is survived by his children, Larry Jr, and Marla; grandchildren, Lakaylin and Amari; sisters, Lois Crouch and Sharon Profet (Clannie;) brother, Marvin Hamilton (Barbara;) along with a host of family and friends. He will be dearly missed by all.
Serving as pallbearers are Asa Watts, Gary Hamilton, William Dow, Darry Harris, Marcus Montgomery, and Paul Hamilton. Serving as honorary pallbearers are Carl Hamilton, Darren Hamilton, Roderick Hamilton, Lionel Dow, Jeffrey Hamilton and Tara Hamilton.
A visitation for Larry will be held Friday, October 27, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church, 2801 Conti St, Houston, TX 77020. A funeral service will occur Friday, October 27, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Chruch, 2801 Conti St, Houston, TX 77020. A committal service will occur Friday, October 27, 2023 at 1:00 PM at Brookside Memorial Park.
