Born on January 27, 1933, in Ballinger, Texas, to Eugene W. and Myrtle Arthur McLaurin, Lauchlin led a life marked by quiet strength, deep devotion to family, and an enduring love for life’s simple joys.
A proud graduate from the University of Texas, Lauchlin earned his degree in geology and carried a lifelong passion for learning and exploration. He also honorably served his country for two years in the United States Army, stationed in Germany during his service.
On October 9, 1958, Lauchlin married the love of his life, Barbara Wilson McLaurin. Their nearly six decades of marriage were filled with warmth, laughter, and shared adventure until her passing in 2016. Together, they raised three children who were the center of their world: Karen Blackburn, Beth McKitterick, and Tommy McLaurin (Annie McLaurin).
Lauchlin was a beloved grandfather to Lauren Colunga (Nathan Colunga, Ethan and Lila), Ben Dean (Abby Schwartz and Stephen Dean), Marie Smith (Steve Smith, Hunter, Landon, and Cooper), Cheryl Ashman (Chris Ashman, Kylie, and Logan), Kevin McKitterick, Christine Caron (Croix Caron and Braxton) and Eric McLaurin (Olivia McLaurin, Lachlan, and Mirren). His legacy lived on in the lives of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whose laughter and accomplishments brought him immense pride.
An active member of the Heritage Grand Community, Lauchlin was known for his kind spirit, love of conversation, and competitive edge at the Dominoes table. A true Texan at heart, he also never turned down a sweet treat, always enjoying the sweeter side of life.
Lauchlin will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his quiet wisdom, and the joy he brought to all who knew him. His presence will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered by family and friends alike.
A private family service will be held to honor his life and legacy.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to a charity of your choice in his memory.
