

Laurence Gong, 75, joined the angels on March 1, 2024 with his loving family by his side in Houston, Texas. He had a big personality and was, also, known as Lonny, Larry, or Lawrence. He was born September 11, 1948 in Brooklyn, New York to Chee Lip Gong and Moy Kue Chin. The family moved to Houston via train when he was 6 years old because the weather here reminded his parents of where they grew up in Guangzhou, China. He was preceded in death by his siblings Kwan Tai Chin and Ronald Dong. He is survived by his wife Lina and their sons Michael and Matthew, his sister Peggy (Victor) Lum, his sisters-in-law Soo Ying Dong, Yina Wong, Bedita Ruleman, Laidy (Paul) Gerlach, Vicky (Danny) Ip, and numerous cousins, nephews, nieces, grand nephews and grand nieces.
He graduated from Reagan High School in 1967 and Sam Houston State University in 1971 with a degree in Business Administration. He started working as a manager at a Walgreens and quickly found his way into the banking business where he would thrive as branch manager for Texas Commerce Bank and eventually retired from Chase Bank in 2001. He loved bowling, tennis, softball, basketball, western films, and all types of music from Elvis to BTS. He was a long time season ticket holder of the Oilers and Texans.
He was a devoted husband and father. He was married to the love of his life, Lina, for 50 loving years, and did everything for their sons.
Services will be held at the Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Freeway in Houston. Visitation will take place Thursday, the 14th of March, from 6-8pm and the funeral and interment will be held Friday March 15th starting at 10am.
