Laverne Webb Bonora, affectionately known as “Gan-Gan,” was born in Timpson, Texas, on September 3, 1928, to John and Euna Webb. She passed away peacefully on Feb 21, 2025, surrounded by her beloved family at the age of 96.
At the age of 17, she moved to Houston, and she started her career at Southwestern Bell. Shortly after she arrived in Houston, she met the love of her life, Philip Bonora, at his parent's grocery store and bar. After a six-week whirlwind courtship, they married at St. Joseph Catholic Church on March 5, 1946. She was very involved in volunteering at St. Joseph, St. Theresa, and then St. Ambrose Catholic Church. She and Philip opened several businesses on Shepherd Drive. In her later years, she enjoyed ceramics and crafts while staying busy selling antiques and working at estate sales. She had a remarkable ability to welcome people into her life and home. Through this, she taught us the importance of family and friendship.
She is preceded in death by Philip, her husband of 57 years, her daughter Patricia Hale, her son-in-law K.B. Brooks, and her grandson Sammy Romano, Sr.
She is survived by her daughters Lucille Brooks and Phyllis Meyer (Robert Meyer). Her sisters Nelda Clark and Jean Muth (she was one of 17 children). Grandchildren: Lisa Romano, Laura Barrett (Thomas), Keith Brooks (Mindy), Kathy Arzola (Eric), Kristi Hale, Kimberly Goeden (Mike), Philip Hale, Kevin Meyer, Emily Konieczny (Kyle). Along with 21 Great and Great-Great Grand Children and numerous nieces and nephews.
Her grandsons are honored to serve as pallbearers: Keith Brooks, Kevin Meyer, Samuel Romano Jr., Nickolas Romano, Matthew Romano, Joshua Brooks, Charles Wilson, and Dylan Barrett.
In addition, the honorary pallbearers will encompass the remaining grandsons, each carrying forward the legacy of love and remembrance.
