LaVerne was a devout Lutheran all her life being a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Loebau, Texas; St. Mark Lutheran Church in Houston, Texas; and St. John’s Lutheran Church in Cypress, Texas. She was a member of the ladies guild and the senior citizen’s group until her health prevented her from continuing. LaVerne was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
She was a housewife and chauffeur (school, doctor appointments, sports activities, etc.) until a little after Randall Lee passed in 1967. A memorial library was built at St. Mark Lutheran church/school in his honor where she worked for several years until a librarian took over. After that she worked in several sandwich shops ending up in the lunchroom area for CFISD. She cared for a couple of children after then in her home before her health issues caused her to retire. LaVerne dearly loved her family and made every effort to watch some of the sports and theatrical events her children, grand children, and great grand children participated in. She lived by herself for the most part after her husband passed away until illnesses caused her to stay with Deborah and Brad until she could no longer maneuver stairs safely. She then moved in with Joan and Barry. A kind neighbor of Joan’s took care of LaVerne during the day until Joan’s retirement on January 31, 2017.
The family would like to give many thanks to the Avasiloaie family for taking care of mom for several years. We would also like to thank Reverend John Fibelkorn for coming to visit with mom many times and for offering communion when possible. Many thanks to nurse practitioner Lisa Foytik and the employees of Legend Oaks for the three times mom was there for recuperation after hospitalizations. LaVerne and her family would also like to extend special thanks to Dr. Francisco Medrano and all of the employees with Harbor Hospice and Harbor Hospice Inpatient Facility for taking such excellent care of her in her final years. LaVerne was a matriarch. She loved her family dearly and gave life and love to many generations of kin; hundreds of lives were touched by hers. Though she is no longer with us here on Earth, she will always fondly be in our hearts and memories.
