

LaWanda Kay Sanders Minnieweather was born on November 4, 1957, in Houston, Texas, to James Alfred Sanders Jr. and Ora Lee Sanders. She grew up in the Acres Homes Community, where she attended school and later graduated from G.W. Carver Sr. High School, Class of 1976.
During her time at Carver, she was an energetic and passionate cheerleader, proudly serving as Cheer Captain from 1972 to 1976. From an early age, LaWanda embraced her faith, accepting Christ at Star Bethel Missionary Baptist Church and later becoming a
devoted member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church. She built a successful
career at The Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas (Houston Branch), where she dedicated over 40 years of service, working from 1980 until her formal retirement in 2022. In 1980, LaWanda married Reginald Minnieweather, and from this union, she was blessed with a son, Colvondrea D. Minnieweather. She also shared a deep and special bond with her beloved niece, Dr. S. Ester, whom she cherished as a daughter.
She leaves to cherish her memory her three brothers, James L. Sanders, Kenneth Stewart, and Kevin Devine, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends whom she loved dearly.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Barbara Stewart-Evans. LaWanda’s presence radiated warmth, kindness, and unwavering love. She touched the lives of many through her grace, strength, and generosity, leaving behind a legacy that will forever be remembered.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 15, 2025 from 11:00 AM at Greater Faith Baptist Church, 9235 West Montgomery, Houston, TX 77088.
