Lawrence Andre Bouffard (Larry) peacefully entered into eternal rest on September 5, 2022, at the age of 90. He was born on June 25, 1932, in Green Bay, Wisconsin, as the first child of Gladys and Arthur Bouffard and lived in the same house on Gray Street until he went to college. Larry graduated from Green Bay West High School in 1950 where he was president of the Student Council, earned his Eagle Scout award, and was elected as the Prom King, twice. He earned a BA in Finance from the University of Wisconsin (Madison) in 1954, and while there was a member of the ROTC and Psi Upsilon Fraternity, and he later served as the chapter president for Psi Upsilon. He became a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in 1969 and earned his MBA from Pepperdine University in 1974. Our dad never met a stranger, and when he introduced himself, he often laughingly said, “Larry A. Bouffard - LAB, BA, MBA, CPA, Eagle Scout, Prom King.”
Larry and our mom, Maureen, met in Green Bay, WI, where Maureen was a high school English teacher and Larry was a salesman. They married in Whitefish Bay, WI, on February 8, 1958, and moved directly to San Antonio, TX. When they got off the plane in San Antonio, they were amazed by the warm temperature of 70 degrees - it had been 30 degrees when they left Whitefish Bay! Larry and Maureen loved living in San Antonio, and their first three children were born there: Suzanne, Steven, and Mary Claire. Larry and Maureen moved to Houston in 1964, and their youngest two children, Andrew and Kathryn, were born there. Houston has been their home for 58 years. They always bloomed where they were planted and made friends quickly.
After college, Larry worked as a salesman for American Can Company in Green Bay and San Antonio then worked as a salesman for IBM in San Antonio, Dallas, and El Paso. While in El Paso, he and a fraternity brother, Tom Moran, opened a Muntz TV store in the early days of the television craze. After having moved to Houston in 1964, Larry started working for Mission Manufacturing. In 1969, he began working for Century Papers Company and became their Comptroller. Later, he worked for Turner, Collie, and Braden as their Vice President of Finance. He retired in 1998 and took advantage of his extra time by increasing service to his parish, Christ the Good Shepherd. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Serra Club, Order of the Holy Sepulchre, and served on the board of directors for the Shalom Center and the Finance Council for Christ the Good Shepherd. He received the Humanitarian “Yellow Rose'' award from the Mercy Park Association of Galveston in 2012. Larry loved to travel, and in addition to countless trips to visit family in Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Idaho, he also visited Rome, Alaska, Mexico, Ireland, and Canada.
Larry was a longtime fan of the Green Bay Packers, University of Wisconsin Badgers, Houston Astros, and Spring Woods High School teams. On his 76th birthday, he got to throw out the first pitch at an Astros game. He was a lifelong practicing Catholic and was an active member of St. Cecilia’s parish from 1964-1995 and Christ the Good Shepherd parish from 1995-until his passing.
Our dad was a generous man, full of kindness and love for everyone he knew. He was well known for his wit, sense of humor, devout faith, and love for his family. He made an effort to be present for life’s events for friends and family. He attended his childrens’ and grandchildrens’ Baptism’s, First Holy Communions, Confirmations, swim meets, scouting events, ball games, hockey games, dance recitals, plays, performances, graduations, weddings, etc. We often told him that he got an ‘A’ for attendance. He was a loving partner to our mom for 64 and a half years, and was a true example to all of us as a devoted spouse, supportive parent, grandparent, great-grandparent, and person of faith. He attributed his wonderful long life to having a loving wife, terrific children, good jobs, and regular church attendance. In fact, he regularly related regular church attendance to all the good things that happened to him.
Larry is preceded in death by his parents, Gladys and Arthur Bouffard, brothers Raoul and Lloyd, and daughter Mary Claire.
Larry is survived by his wife Maureen; children - Suzanne Woodard (Gary) of McKinney, TX, Steven Bouffard, Andrew Bouffard (Kristen), and Kathryn Guerre (Sean); grandchildren - Patrick Bouffard (Lindsay) of Katy, TX, Thomas Woodard (Lyssa) of Denton, TX, Drew Bouffard (and fiancé, Katy Gallion), Caroline Bouffard, Erin Guerre, and MaryKate Guerre; great-grandchildren - Oliver Bouffard, Lydia Bouffard, Luka Woodard, and Joni Woodard; and many beloved extended family members and dear friends.
