Leanne Stenzel Smith , R.N.

She was born in Houston, TX May 15, 1935 and was raised in the Heights where she graduated from John H. Reagan High School in 1953. She then attended and graduated from the University of Houston Central College of Nursing in 1958 with an R. N. diploma.

She became an operating room nurse, primarily at Memorial Hermann Northwest Hospital from which she retired. While working in the operating room, she met her husband, Dr. Hubert L. Smith, Jr.

She enjoyed travelling, primarily cruises, and entertaining, particularly playing the “steal” game for which she furnished the prizes. She enjoyed getting together with close friends over brunch or dinner several times a year.

Leanne was preceded in death by her parents Leroy and Vivian Stenzel. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Hubert L. Smith, Jr., daughter Patti Newby, son, Clovis Newby, daughter-in-law Kathy, and grandsons Bobby and Kyle Newby. She is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Drs. Leroy and Rebecca Stenzel of Bernice, LA and many beloved cousins.

A visitation with family is scheduled for Friday, January 6, 2012 from 5-8pm and memorial service on Saturday, January 7, 2012 at 10am, both at Pat H. Foley Funeral Home.
