Leida Jago was born on December 4, 1937, in Shreveport Louisiana to the late Jessie and Corean (Owens) McDowell. She departed this life on January 9, 2024. Leida was the Oldest sister to Ruby Jewel and Anita Marie, and they were her pride and joy. She also has an older sister Debra (Stella) Shaw that she loved very much.
Leida attended Brooks Street Elementary School, Central Junior High School and Graduated from Booker T Washington High School in Shreveport, LA. She accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of St Paul Baptist Church in La Chute, LA.
Leida married her first husband, Earnest St. Jules who was in United States Airforce in 1955. They relocated to California in 1956. To this union she had 5 children, 4 boys and 1 girl. She later remarried William T Jago of United States Army and to this union she had one son.
Leida worked for San Bernardino Unified School District for 30 years and although remarried she was always known as Miss St. Jules to all the neighborhood kids. Leida’s corner house stood as a safe haven for generations not only for her family but for countless kids in the community. To her grandchildren she was referred to as Yi-Yah.
She loved working in her yard and almost daily you could pass her house and catch her sweeping the street and or sidewalk with her dog right by her side. Leida was a trusted member of Temple Missionary Baptist Church for 40+yrs. You would catch her on Sunday mornings all dressed up in her white convertible Firebird headed to church. She also served on the mother’s board, under the leadership of Pastor Raymond Turner until her health declined a few years back. It was then that she relocated to Katy, Texas in 2021 to live with her daughter.
Along with her parents Leida is preceded in death by her husband William T Jago, four sons DE Oliver Jago, Ricky, Dickey and Kevin (St. Jules), her sister Ruby Jewel Williams and her great-great granddaughter Kobi Rayne (Suga momma).
Leida’s legacy will live on in the hearts of her two children Jerry St. Jules (LaTonya) of Mesa, Arizona, Lisa St. Jules (Al) of Katy, Texas, her two sisters Anita Rascoe (Charles) of Shreveport, Louisiana, Debra (Stella) Shaw of Colton, California, 18 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, 11 great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
