Leigh Anne Tanzberger passed away on Friday, November 3, 2017 at the age of 47 after a lifelong heroic battle with End Stage Renal Disease. Born June 13, 1970, she is the daughter of Eric Peter and Suzanne Evans Tanzberger of Sugar Land, Texas.
Leigh Anne attended Kehoe-France School in Metairie, Louisiana and graduated from Archbishop Chapelle High School in Metairie, Louisiana. She also attended Loyola University in New Orleans, Louisiana for two years and graduated from Rutgers University in Camden, New Jersey with a B.S. in Business and Marketing while residing in Medford, New Jersey with her parents.
Leigh Anne dedicated her life to the advocacy of renal patients. Many years ago, she was the first and only patient in Texas to be invited to serve on the Board of Directors of the Texas Renal Coalition. She also served on the WeKan Committee of the Renal Support Network (RSN) and attended meetings in Washington, D.C. designed to promote legislation to further the well-being of patients with End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD). She was a trained “Hopeline” operator and has served on the Board of Directors, Executive Committee, and Patient Advisory Committee for the End Stage Renal Disease Network #14 of Texas which oversees dialysis centers.
Leigh Anne was the founder of RSN’s annual Houston seminar and brunch, “Health, Happiness, and Hope,” for which she worked diligently bringing in doctors, dieticians, social workers and dialysis companies in order to educate patients and their families on how to cope with ESRD and transplantation. Leigh Anne truly believed the RSN motto, “An illness is too demanding when you don’t have hope.”
Leigh Anne was also a member of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, Fort Bend Friends and Neighbors, as well as Fort Bend County Women’s Center’s “Boogie” Committee.
Leigh Anne is preceded in death by her paternal grandparents Eric Walter and Kathryn Mountain Tanzberger of Allegany, New York and her maternal grandparents Clarence Hugh “Cal” Evans and June Stover Evans, originally from Pennsylvania and Olean, New York who resided in Houston, Texas for many years.
Leigh Anne is survived by her parents Eric Peter and Suzanne Evans Tanzberger originally from Olean, New York. She is also survived by her sister Lynn Tanzberger Hood of Mandeville, Louisiana and her brother Eric David Tanzberger and his wife Lisa Mikill Tanzberger of Houston, Texas.
