Leo Showers completed his journey on September 6, 2022. He was born in Huntsville, Texas on May 26, 1933, to the parentage of the late Florence Richardson and Leon Showers, Sr. He attended high school in Lubbock, Texas. He married Georgia Mae Doakes on January 26, 1958 and to this union three children were born. Leo worked in aircraft maintenance at Houston Intercontinental Airport when it first opened in 1969. Leo was later employed as head of maintenance at Spring Independent School District where he earned a full retirement 1998. He was truly loved by his family and was the life of every gathering. Leo enjoyed cooking, fishing, cabinetmaking and a competitive domino game. He loved watching his two favorite teams, the Houston Texans and Houston Astros. He was the patriarch of his family, having lived for nearly 9 decades. He will be remembered for his humorous nature, vast knowledge and exaggerated storytelling.
Proceeding him in death were his sisters, Ethel Young, Hortencia Johnson, Dorothy Showers; brother Leon Showers, Jr.; and his dearest cousins, Novella Smith, Rosie Lee, Rachel White, and Dora Johnson.
He leaves to cherish his memory; his daughters Cindy Watson (Merlon), Ann Oppong, and Selena Showers; his son Kerry Showers, Sr.(Janine); 10 grandchildren, Myles Watson, Reggie Watson, Felicia Pigge’, Tyechia Showers, Tishun Showers, Kerry Showers, Jr., Kevin Showers, David Pringle, Maya Oppong and Kai Mills; 4 great-grandchildren, Jaylon Showers, Tiana Showers, Roman Sutton and Cameron Laraway; 4 nieces, Jewel Williamson, Myrtle Lewis, Linda Wheeler, and Linda Moore; 4 nephews, Tommy Young, Lawrence Johnson, Michael Wheeler, and Rodney Wheeler; a devoted nephew, Darren Holmes; special cousins, Isaiah Richardson, Jr., George and Vivian Steed; a loyal friend, Mr. Joe Davis; his Brookdale family; and a host of relatives and friends.
A receiving of family members and friends for Leo will be held Friday, September 16, 2022 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Brookside Funeral Home, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, TX 77039. The funeral service will occur at 1:00 PM. Interment to follow in Brookside Memorial Park immediately after the funeral service.
