Gordon McMillan was born on November 20, 1933 in Oklahoma City, OK to Leon and Carmen McMillan, who both preceded him in death. A 1951 graduate of Central High School in Oklahoma City, he began his college education at The University of Oklahoma, but left to serve in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After his service, he continued his education at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX where he met his first wife Ann Weaver. They were married on December 28, 1956 and moved to Bunker Hill Village in May 1972, where he lived for 45 years. They raised three sons, all graduating from Memorial High School. The McMillan Family were members of St. Cecilia Catholic Church, The Briar Club and The Houston Racket Club. Ann McMillan preceded him in death in 1987.
A natural-born entrepreneur, Gordon owned many businesses throughout the years mostly in the Greater Houston Area, but also across Texas. A bold businessman, he created innovative solutions in the logistics industry while buying, building and selling many businesses including trucking, small package delivery and warehousing. In 1962, he started with a single Hertz Rental Car franchise inside the loop in Houston. Thousands of handshakes and signed contracts later, a corporation employing more than 500 people grew and held strong throughout the ‘70s and ‘80s. Although he never officially retired, he passed his businesses to his sons in the 1990s. He focused mainly on investments in the last 20 years, and stayed current with music, art, cooking and wine.
He married his second wife Jan Ward on June 25, 1992. Gordon and Jan enjoyed cooking together, collecting art and hiking in Vail, CO.
He is survived by his wife Jan Ward McMillan; his sons Pat (wife Genie) McMillan, Bruce (wife Sandy) McMillan and Jay (wife Susan) McMillan; his stepdaughters Michelle Marcum and Mitzi (husband Martin) Brenner; grandchildren Patrick (wife Kate) McMillan, Mathew (wife Taylor) McMillan, Melissa McMillan, Alexandra McMillan, Barrett McMillan, Justin McMillan, Amanda McMillan, Jake McMillan; step-grandchildren Austin Anderson, Bryce Brenner, Max Brenner; great-grandson Dominick McMillan.
