Leona, also known as Tency to her siblings, was born on November 25, 1929, in Huntington, Texas, to the late Clara (Clayton) and Joel Columbus Parish. She was preceded in death by her sisters Billie Housen and Betty Scroggins and her brothers Bo Parish and Don Parish.
She is survived by her daughter, Olivia Lovett (husband, Dan Lovett), and son, Zachary Lovett; her daughter, Christina Jorski; along with her children, Jessica McKinley, Helen Jorski, Sophia Hiller, Louis Jorski, Justin Jorski, Genevieve Jorski, Pearl Jorski, Elissa Jorski, and Victoria Jorski; and son, Matthew Buvinghausen (wife, Magda). Grandchildren Mark Buvinghausen and April Janiszak, children of Bill Buvinghausen, who preceded her in death.
She was married to our beloved father, Billy E. Buvinghausen, from July 7, 1950, until his passing on November 12, 1995, at age 67.
Our mother often spoke of our father coming to visit her. She would describe how beautiful his wings were and how he told her she only had nubs now but would have beautiful wings like his someday. Our beloved mother went to be with her Lord in the early morning hour of June 23. She now has her own beautiful wings and is rejoicing with our father for eternity. Remembering that story gives us great peace, knowing they are now together.
There were so many outstanding qualities to describe our mother. She was beautiful, elegant, loving, and always devoted to helping her family. In addition, she was brilliant and loved to dabble in the stock market. She loved her Epiphany Lutheran church family and enjoyed being with her friends. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Her family asks that she be remembered for the joy she brought to others rather than for the sadness of her passing.
Funeral services will be held at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Fwy, Houston, on July 3 at 2:00 pm. The family will begin receiving friends at 1:00 pm.
