

Leslie H. Dixon, 90, of Houston, Texas passed away on Thursday, May 12, 2011. He was born December 26, 1920, in Poplar Bluff, Missouri to William Harlan and Lena Dixon. Les graduated from Poplar Bluff Sr. High with the class of 1938. He was an outstanding athlete in high school where he achieved honorable mention in the state as an offensive fullback and as a defensive back. Foregoing a football scholarship, Les went to work in the defense industry. Attending night school, Les received an Associates degree in accounting from the John Adams Business School. He retired from Anheuser Bush Inc. in February of 1986, after serving in various positions in St. Louis, Kansas City, Mo., Dallas, Tulsa and in Houston, where he transferred in 1967. Les was twice honored by the Houston Sales Executives for outstanding sales and marketing achievements. He was also the recipient of the Dale Carnegie Humanitarian Award. Les had a great love for his family and friends. He was always ready to lend his time, talents and treasures to those in need. Upon retirement, he was offered a part-time position at Wismer Distribution Company by Jimmy Ferris in Baytown, where he has been employed until his passing. Les was an active member of the St. Francis De Sales Church. His involvement included Church Bazaar, Usher, Choir, and President of the Men's club, Church Censes, fund raiser and member of the Building Committee. He also served two terms on the Parish Council. He is survived by his wife, Grace Theresa Saranita Dixon; daughter, Charlene McQuitty and her husband Holly of Baytown, son, Richard Dixon and wife Gayla of Tulsa, Oklahoma, daughter, Jan Horine and husband Rob of Sugar Land, Texas. Grandchildren, Leslie Scattone and husband Anthony, Sandi Meier and husband Steve, Jennifer Dixon, Dan Dixon, Matthew Blase, Justin Horine, Andrew Horine, and Amanda Grace Horine; great-grandchildren, Anthony Meier, Holly Grace Meier, Daniel Scattone, and Alexander Scattone. The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 15, 2011 in the Memorial Oaks Funeral Home Chapel from 5:00 until 8:00PM, with a Rosary at 7:00PM. Funeral Services will be held at the St. Francis De Sales Catholic Church at 1:00PM, Monday, May 16, 2011. Interment will follow in the Memorial Oaks Cemetery.
